Wigan/Paul Cook
Seemingly breaking news on the BBC.
If the usual penalty is a 12pts deduction that takes them to the bottom of the table.
Given their excellent form during BCD football must be gutting for the players/manager.
Will that mean they try even harder in their remaining games to try and get enough points on the board to stay up even if they get -12pts. Not sure if they’ve got any of the top 4 or 5 still to play.

Unfortunately I think their the first of many smaller clubs that will go into Administration and possibly out of business

They still have Brentford (a) and Fulham (h) to play. Some talk that they might not be able to complete their fixtures. If that happened and results expunged we would lose 3 pts same as all the top 5 except WBA who would lose 1.

If the results were expunged it would be good for us in terms of strengthening our chance of auto promotion but bad for us in terms of winning the title. We would lose 3 points having won and lost again them. Brentford and Fulham would lose 3 pts as they have both beat them but crucially have only played them once so they would lose the same points as us but miss out on the chance to potentially gain 3 points on us. Biggest winner would be WBA who lost and drew so would only lose 1 pt.

Re: Wigan go into Administration
As a result of Wigan Athletic confirming they have entered into administration, the Club will be subject to a 12-point deduction and, in accordance with EFL Regulations, the timing of the sporting sanction can only be determined once final league placings in the Championship are determined.
If in the event the Club is relegated by virtue of their final position following the conclusion of the Championship season, then the deduction will apply in League One in 2020/21. However, if the Club is not in the relegation places following the final game of season, the sanction will be then be applied to their season 2019/20 total and final league standings amended as appropriate.
The EFL is awaiting formal notification from the Administrators and once the League has received this it will commence discussions with the relevant individuals with the aim of achieving a long-term future for the Club.
Gives them an extra incentive to carry on their current good form to ensure that any points deduction takes place this season when they are safe from relegation.

Once Dave Whelan packed it in, you felt they might struggle. He holds the club close, so he may help Wigan find a buyer. They have been on a decent run of late aswell. Rugby league used to be the most popular sport in the town i don't know if its still the case. Wish them well.

Agree as is scrubbing results which will have a huge effect on the table. Brentford playing for a auto spot play Wigan final game of the season, if Wigan don't complete the season they don't get to play on the final day...We will have a game in hand over them too.
Fulham, it's Fulham who would not play last day of the season...

Re: Wigan go into Administration
Feel so sorry for Wigan fans.
Sheffield Wednesday and Derby need sorting before Wigan do.
Wigan have been top 2 of the form table for more then half the season.
Only Brentford have taken more points, they have won 2 more points and have a +3 goal difference on us over the last 20 games.
Wendies and Derby have taken the absolute pish they should be priority for the EFL not Wigan.

Re: Wigan go into Administration
Just heard Huddersfield were not allowed to retain some of their loan players, whereas the likes of us were ....CV needs to factored in to any financial troubles for teams and the points deductions for issues arising from that need to be waived. For cheating FFP then it absolutely needs to be applied

Re: Wigan go into Administration
If Wigan can pull some money together and play out the season, they could have a big impact on the race at the top. At the moment they are 8 points above the relegation places so they will need to stretch this lead to more than 12 to avoid going down this year and, in the process, get the 12 point penalty out of the way.
Their current form is really good and they have to play both Brentford and Fulham yet. If they can rally financial support, their own support and the players then they would be a very capable and motivated team to have to face in this run in. Brentford and Fulham would no longer be facing a disinterested mid table outfit thinking of their holidays.

Spectacular failure again by the EFL who approved the new owners just a month ago apparently.

Re: Wigan go into Administration
just what the hell is the efl playing at?
are they trying to destroy their own league?
if wigan get punished because of covid, they may well end up like bury
then the efl say they will commence dealings with wigan to do what they can to save the club.
they can save the club, scrap this bloody unfair rule, at least for this season where many clubs are in trouble.
wigan have done nothing wrong, they did not create coronavirus.

Surely Wigan are too big go under? Just like Bolton, I think they'll get it sorted. The EFL need investigating for allowing another poor owner to buy a club.

If any of that turns out to be true then its as bent as anything you will ever read in football.
Wigan NEED to be saved and those responsible from top to bottom need to be prosecuted.
