VAR
Quick one people. Are you prepared for VAR and all its ramifications. Be assured it's a massive part of the game now. You " celebrate " a goal for example and it's brought back. Once you score your default bottom becomes " chalked off, VAR. ".
It has taken a lot of excitement from the game. I don't like it. Game being dictated by someone in a room two miles away.
I don't like it one bit.

Re: VAR
I like the reasons behind it - i.e. to get decisions right - as a Leeds fan we do tend to get a lot more incorrect decisions go against us than we get going for us. 4 examples this season being Berardi's red card and penalty against Millwall, the ball going out of play in the build up to Millwall's goal at ER and Mitrovic not getting sent off.
I have no qualms either about waiting for a goal to be given as long as the decision reached is correct.
The only problem with VAR has been when they have got decisions wrong. That shouldn't happen. The Man U penalty the other week being a glaring case when the decision should have been reversed but wasn't. If they cannot get decisions right then there is little point having VAR. Hopefully they will have learnt from the problems they have had this year and it will be a lot better next year.

Re: VAR
VAR can never be infallible because at the end of the day it’s still based on a person/persons interpretation. But on the whole I think it would benefit Leeds because as Weasel says we do tend to get far more poor decisions against us than for us.

Flawed, still open to interpretation by the official as seen on more than one occasion this season.
The offside rulings are crazy where toes are offside. Game robbed of spontaneity imo.

Re: VAR
I'd rather remove it from the game altogether (won't happen though). It's been brought in to ensure mistakes are missed and yet it must have a ratio of approx. 30/40 per cent of actually coming to the wrong conclusion. I remember a weekend recently where they admitted VAR got all three decisions wrong - so what is the actual point of it?! Also the minuscule offside decisions are stupid - how can you accurately define the exact split second where the ball leaves a players foot (you can't) and hence some kind of sensible tolerance has to be built into it. It's ruining celebrations - no point in celebrating a goal now until you're sure there's not going to be a VAR check - madness. Bring it in to spot clear mistakes (Lampard's no goal against Germany in the world cup, player's being given 3 yellow cards in a game etc.) - nothing else.

Re: VAR
I've said it before and still believe that they should do it like in cricket and allow each team 2 appeals. If the manager/captain makes an appeal and gets it wrong they loses 1 of the 2 appeals. If they gets it right then they keep both appeals and the decision gets reversed in that team's favour.
That would stop the interruptions as managers wouldn't want to risk losing an appeal early in the game unless they were convinced an error had been made. And if they did make an early appeal and get it wrong they'd want to be almost certain about making a later appeal.

would you still have felt that way if var was used to send mitrovic off the other week.danhirons wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:06 am I'd rather remove it from the game altogether (won't happen though). how would you feel had he gone on to score a winner for fulham?
To say var gets 30-40% of decisions wrong is not true.
There is a person who sits there and analyses the action, in many cases however, its all about interpretation....was it ball to hand or hand to ball, was the offside playing interfering with play? In these cases players fans and officials may well disagree....but decisions are based on what actually happened not what an onfield official thought had happened. Therefore var decisions will be more accurate,,,,its like giving the referee a slow motion replay from different angles.
Its true that it does interrupt the flow of the game, but stops ludricous refereeing mistakes such as the infamous hand of god goal, and a goal i recall been given when the ball hit the side netting, broke the netting and ended up in the goal.

Re: VAR
I agree. I’m sure this would eradicate much of the vitriol aimed at VAR, which intrinsically was introduced for the correct reasons. It will never be perfect, but it’s better to have reversed some bad decisions than never to have reversed any at allweasel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 1:53 pm I've said it before and still believe that they should do it like in cricket and allow each team 2 appeals. Re: VAR
Same as American Football where the HC or Manager throws a red flag, I think it works well there but errors still get made and mainly, like offside, for judgement calls like pass interference.weasel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 1:53 pm I've said it before and still believe that they should do it like in cricket and allow each team 2 appeals. Re: VAR
Indeed. You get a lot of managers moaning when a decision goes against them yet they then keep quiet when a decision goes for them. My idea would cut down on all that moaning as it would have been a manager (or perhaps captain) making the decision to do the checking. Anything that increases the amount of times a right decision is made is good but they do need to get a higher percentage right than they have done. It may be that some rules need re-writing as things that are open to interpretation is always going to result in some people saying the decision is right and others saying it is wrong. The offside rule is a prime example with the 'interfering' element. They should just have it that a player is offside whether they are interfering or not.

Problem is and correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't is supposed to " eleviate " Anny subjectivity and be perfect. IF it is subjective then why have it. Does spoil any spontaneity.Mick Jones shoulder wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 6:48 am Flawed, still open to interpretation by the official as seen on more than one occasion this season.

Re: VAR
It is terrible.
Get rid asap.
Takes all the enjoyment out of your team scoring a crucial or last minute winner.
We had three VAR decisions go against in 3 consecutive matches which cost us at least 4 points and were later all confirmed to be incorrect. They arguably cost us a potential CL place (not that we really deserve one this season).
