I doubt we'll be in the market for £30-40 million players. Probably £25 million at a real stretch.

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season
The links are getting worse and less exciting
Levante midfielder Jose Campana is the latest, seems decent enough but not a wow signing.
Solly March is another, Brighton bit part winger who still seems to be "highly rated" despite being mid 20s. 2 goals and 10 assists in 60minutes of Prem Matches, meh.
If we are going domestic then not players like Solly March ffs.

Yeah, I've noticed we've gone from Cavani and Zlatan to trawling Europe for any available journeyman.
In the meantime Citeh, Chelsea at Al are shipping in new talent by the day.
I hope Orta's thrown away his Boro contacts.

Well we are at the bottom of the food chain compared to Citeh and Chelsea. Premiership new boys and never rich to start with. We're gonna have to be very clever I'd have thought and patient

I thought Radz said we were going to break the transfer record soon? Rio was £18m, so it's be almost £20m. I'm not saying we should just spunk £20m on a random player, but at that kind of price they should at least be proven in a top league.White Riot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 3:50 pm Yeah, realistically we'll probably struggle to push £20 million. You never know when clubs, agents, players and the media are just throwing out bait to push up prices.

There is no way we are in a position to compete with the big boys

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season
We are and thats why I've been pushing the foreign market.
In England £20mil doesnt get much.
Blades paid £20mil for McBurnie who has hardly pulled up any trees.
Brighton would want £15mil+ for March who is the epitome of average hard working winger if you read the Brighton forum.
You're not getting the best of the Championship for £20mil, Bowen went for £25mil
Mings was well over £20mil
Bidding will start at £20mil for Watkins, Eze, Benrahma etc, other Premier league clubs will happily pay more then that.
We have to be clever but focusing on the English league is a mistake imo, its a vastly inflated market where £20mil is the new £5mil, it doesnt go far.

Yeah biritish prices are ridiculous. Take Nathan Ake for example and he has gone for £40m whereas Brighton got their new defender for £900k. Both about the same age (think one is 28, one is 29) and have both played at centre back for Holland (about 20 caps each). The £900k signing comes from Ajax (so not even a sh*t team or sh*t league) so presumably is a bit of a ball playing centreback too.

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season
I think a lot of this transfer talk is simply clubs and agents trying to push up the prices for their players - similar to how the Peterborough chairman suggests we are after every player they have yet the last player we signed from the was Nicky Ajose. If we are trying to sign a player then you can also be sure that the selling club will be trying to start a bidding war too, if we were singing cast-offs it would be far easier as the club would be snapping our hands off and taking the cash as quickly as they could (a bit like with us when we sold PJ we advertised the fact but got little interest so had to snap Brentford's offer up).
Hopefully we will sign a player or two in the next week, don't forget that our players are all on holiday anyway so the Bielsa acclimatisation process wouldn't be starting for a while anyway.

Sheffield United spent £21mil on Sander Berge.
A title winner in Belgium, part of a Quarter Final Europa League run with Genk.
20 odd caps for Norway, only 21/22.
Weaker league of course but how much would you pay for that sort of player in England?
£30mil, £40mil?

I would rather we didn't bomb out £15 million on a Danny Loader, when we can surely pick up a decent Argentinian international centre-back or striker for around that price.
The names we're linked with now are getting to be more ordinary players and either unproven or failed at PL level.

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season
All the talk during lockdown was of financial meltdown, tightening belts and clubs going to the wall.
Now it's Man United offering £90 million for Sancho, and Chelsea buying Werner in a 5 year deal that's worth over £100 million.
No way that we can or should be looking to join that kind of madness.
I still think our best bet is attracting top class South Americans while we have the lure of MB.
Otherwise we may be looking at blowing our kitty on some unproven English kids, backed up by our academy kids.

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season
Not worried yet but we need movement soon imo.
Bielsa needs signing up by Monday imo.
That leaves us just over a month to get players signed. Given how MB works we need new names in 1st week of August or we wont see them at the start of the season
Need to be proactive not reactive.
Just hope we arent so single minded on the domestic market that we end up
1) getting involved in a bidding war we wont win or will end up vastly overpaying on an Eze or Benrahma
2) be so slow moving on we end up in a Solly March situation
3) End up getting with a JKA, expensive, unfit, months away from MB level.

Radz was giving it large a week ago and now it's all gone quiet. At least Kinnear hasn't come out with the stock line "we're looking to do business early in the window".
It reminds me of them discos I used to go to where as the night drags your hopes and expectations get lower and lower until you believe that knocking a hot dog n onions from some dodgy van down your neck is classed as success.
Cue Danny Loader and Julio Geordio smothered in ketchup n onions

We won't have a clue what we've bought til MB works his magic...or not.
