Bets album of the 80's and probably one of the most pivotal albums ever wins the 1988 poll. Well deserved

1998 AOTY is an easy one for me standing head and shoulders over everything else

Neil Finn’s solo debut album “Try Whistling This”
Takes quite a few listens and is different from his other stuff (hence the title) but it’s one I always go back to.

Not the best of years IMO and am struggling to think of an album I really like from that year.

However, although perhaps a little hit and miss across 4 sides there are some cracking covers (Whiskey in the Jar, Astronomy and especially Turn the Page - which is fantastic) on it so I'll plump for

Metallica 'Garage Inc.'
