No Faaip.

I had a really bad gout attack 4 years ago in my left foot and pretty much couldn't walk on it.

I went to the doctors in Canada and they did f all apart from give me medication that sent me round the twist.

I cleared it up by drinking a pint of juiced celery every day for a month.

The pain and crystals disappeared within 3 weeks of me starting the celery juice.

I didn't touch beer for a year after that.

I haven't been bothered with gout since that attack, mainly down to eliminating beer and purine laden foods.

I pretty much only go down the conventional/pharmaceutical industry path when all other options are exhausted.

Funny you say that Faaip.

When I first went to the doctors in Canada, at the time I wasn't aware I had gout. I happened to have slipped on ice and thought I'd just twisted my foot, but the pain and pressure in the top of my foot and big toe was horrendous. The doctor said "You've twisted your ankle, just go home and RICE it" = dumb, useless idiot

So I went up to hospital and a young doctor I saw took a quick look and said I had gout.

First of all they gave me some meds that sent my blood pressure so high that my pulse was banging in my ears like a ghetto blaster.

Back to the doctors, they then gave me some other stuff that kept me awake for 5 days solid. At which point I said f**k this and stopped the meds. The Mrs got me all kinds of info on how to prevent gout naturally, i.e. what to eat and drink.

So I got on the celery juice and some very concentrated sour cherry extract in tablet form. Cleared things up very quickly and I haven't been bothered with gout since then

Gout probably accounts for around 3 months lost work per year for me when bad affecting both ankles and less often the right knee. I know when it's gout as massive pain that comes from nowhere and moves round the foot or knee. I do eat a lot of celery but the double whammy is I'm a coeliac and vitamin/mineral absorption is difficult...Cheers for the link

The Mrs used to order me some very concentrated cherry extract tablets, which as I remember cost a fortune, but certainly helped a lot.

I'm privileged here in Bulgaria, as we've got a cherry tree in the garden, so we can stuff ourselves with cherries in May and June :-D

American IPA's as usual. I'm in a geat place for craft beer but I do miss the traditional English ales.

I've always associated Tetley's with Leeds. I used to pass the brewery on my way to work every day. I don't really rate it nowadays though. Does anyone have any recommendations on better "Leeds" beers?

That sounds rough mate

I can sympathize, I'd had recurring pain and swelling in my left foot, but was blissful in my ignorance of what was causing it. The inside of my foot had what looked like an extra bone grown on top of the big toe joint. It felt at the time like having your foot clamped in a vice, while a red hot knife was being shoved into it. Absolutely no relief from the pain and pressure.

This gout attack came on about a week after I'd been in a pretty bad car crash, luckily without injury. But I do feel all physical conditions have a mental connection/trigger, and for me this was PTSD from the car crash. I was off work for about a month, and had to wear slippers at work for a while as I couldn't bear to have a shoe on for very long.

You might already be aware of this guy, Dr Robert Morse, who extols that all health conditions can be cured naturally. This book is a really good guide to a healthy lifestyle: https://www.amazon.com/Detox-Miracle-So ... 1935826190

You're a lucky man 64, that's a painful condition.

I also get acid reflux attacks if I start eating and drinking the wrong foods/drinks :x

Last time I was up in Leeds, which was a weekend earlier in the year (Brizzle City game) we went into a Thornbridge Brewery pub (think it was The Bankers Cat from memory) which had some really nice beers.......although I think Thornbridge Brewery is in Derbyshire (maybe Staffs), so not a Leeds pint, but good all the same.

The North Co. Brewery (?) is meant to have some decent options I’ve been told

Another brewery which has a decent range of beers IMO is Badger (Dorset) - particularly their Fursty Ferret, Cranborne Poacher, Tanglefoot and Golden Champion 🍺👍

Need to look into sourcing some Leeds beers for my games here in the US. Like I said, Tetley's is a bit subpar
