Dont need a midfield for the Burnley game anyway!

No good us putting high crosses in, we have to keep it on the floor with pace, that's where their back line is susceptible.
May have to e mail Bielsa that, don't think he will have noticed.
Agree Ges, this game won't be easy no matter how poor we think Manure are!

If that scenario becomes apparent I'd assume Struijk plus Pablo or Shackleton would come into play.

We'll worry about that later if it happens!

Makes you wonder how much truth was in the Pogba wants out story, some of his touches in todays game against the blunts was sublime... thats the way to beat scum, you nailed it Gessa... on the floor with pace, Raphina, Bamford and Rodrigo could really test the scum back line.

Expect them to run at us a lot.

But if we can soak up their pressure we have the capability to play them on the break.

Last season had butterflies every time a cross went near Casilla, now it is corners tbat make me fret.

Cavani, Rashford, Fernandes, Martial. That is a lot to cope with.

Leeds1000 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:21 am I just can't make a case for us in this game with our current defence. I used to think it was stop Fernandes and stop United, but when you have a front 4 like they do, its never going to be easy with our defence.

Against SU and looking at the team (didn't watch the game) in some ways MU set up like i think we should when we need to be tighter. They have a solid block of four which allows the front four to do their stuff up the field with Bassaka & shaw getting forward when they can. Don't know owt about the lad Tellas never heard of him.

And as already mentioned they have Maguire who's mere presence in the box causes all sorts of panic. (much like Pontus used to do for us when he was at his best) Whoever is defending him, i suggest either Coops or Phillips, will have their hands full anytime they get a set-piece. The focus of him will inevitable pull other players away from marking their men.

To have a chance we will need another good afternoon in front of goal. Bielsa only knows one form of defence, its attack. I think Ollie will want to show they can go toe to toe. I'm no Einstein but that's surly a simple equation for goals and plenty of them. I'm already predicting first slot on MOTD2. :o
That's another plus point about Pontus when he played for us, he used to pop up with goals from our set pieces - 3 goals a season on average.

Manure arent the team they once were.

They are very slow starters, they are definitely a talented group of individuals but not necessarily a well coached team.

That being said they do have players who may be just to good for our man to.man system.

Bruno Fernandes vs KP.
Paul Pogba vs Klich.
Martial vs Cooper.
Rashford vs Ayling
Greenwoodvs Dallas.

All of those could easily go against us, all of those are capable of skipping past there marker and opening us up.

The Manure front 3 is full of pace and pur defence isnt making us very susceptible to the counter which is when Manure are at there best.

Not to mention Maguire while he isnt world class is a beast in the air, one of the best in the league.

Sensible hat says we should lose, they have better individuals, they are happy to counter and we are very susceptible to that.

However, they are really inconsistent and not a team imo, talented individuals, not the best team and not comfortable being pressed.

We have to come out fast and get stuck in, rattle there overpaid mercenaries and see if they really want to win.

Despite all of the above if we can give Liverpool and City and Everton a game then we can give them one.

Head says we wont win but heart says that this isnt Fergies team, they arent particularly well coached and will they be willing to match our workrate like Chelsea did?

Not so sure.

They can definitely be beat and we should play with no fear.

Appears that many of Leeds fans fans have a tendency to be bipolar. Win and we go manic, loose and we sink into a deep depression.

Mostly guilty as charged, your honour - but if it ever gets to the point when I'm meh when we win and meh when we lose, I'll quit watching altogether.

Yeah Ole is out of his depth. It takes 100's of miiliions to build a team then the players he has arent good enough or committed enough so he has to go out and buy more players.

Bielsa has taken a bunch of lemons and made lemonade - Ole takes lemonade and turns it back to lemons again. Imagine what Bielsa would do with that squad. Imagine what Pogba would be like in the Klich role. Imagine what Bielsa would do with a defence of Wan Bassaka-Lindelof-Maguire-Shaw. He'd have Shaw back to his ideal weight and bombing up and down that left flank in no time.

I won't exactly be eating my words here if we lose because the money that ManU have spent clearly puts their quality miles ahead of ours. But Bielsa would walk the league if he had that squad at his disposal.

He's not the first to have failed though. Do they have the right structure behind the manager?

Are they buying the players the manager needs to fit a system or style or are they buying the players for cudos and ability to sell shirts?

I don't expect us to win, much like when playing Chelsea a couple of weeks back. The difference is, I feel their defence has the capability to implode so that does give us a chance. In their backline is definitely opportunities to win penalties with our pace and their clumsiness (you could say the same for us, sure). Also think that they don't have the pace to keep up with either Harrison or Raphinha. Alioski also has the ability to wind people up and Pogba always has a red card in him too. Might be worth giving Poveda 30 minutes or so to draw out some fouls as I think he could do a job like he did against City.

The name of the game is to snatch an early goal and then get under their skin a little. Loss of discipline really affects an oppositions game (that's how I play CB against more talented but often younger Latino players, just get under their skin and let them lose their heads).

Ultimately, I won't be depressed if we lose as on paper we should, but I do feel optimistic we can get something out of the game.

As you say, fans will always ride the roller coaster from ecstasy to devastation and back. This is expected.
But the attacks on our own players after every loss kinda gets me down.

This game is bonus country. We need the points off West Brom and Burnley. Anything we get on Sunday will be great. But if we get nine points from four games by losing here and winning the next two, I’m sure no one here would mind.

The real worry for this game is that we could be badly punished from set pieces. But we are capable of hurting them. Right now I’d take a point, and the hand that offered it.
