Meslier - 5

Catch the f**king ball

Ayling - 6

A game of two halves

Llorente N/A

Cooper - 5

Some important headers but it is becoming clear that he isn’t up to the mark

Alioski - 2

f**king awful

Phillips - 5

A game of two halves. Went missing in the 2nd half

Dallas - 6

Grafted hard, did a job for us

Raphinha - 9

Fantastic performance

Rodrigo - 8

Best game in a while, always a threat

Harrison - 7

Missed a chance that was easier to score, but got the job done in the end

Bamford - 2

Might as well have been wearing a Newcastle shirt
subs

Struijk - 8

Barely missed a beat at the back

Klich - 6

Something still not quite right...

Roberts - 6

Ran about a bit, less worse than Bamford

Meslier 7 - Solid
Ayling - 6 Struggled when the Newcastle lad came on
Cooper - 5.5 Struggled when asked to be the ball playing defender
Alioski - 5 struggled
Phillips - 8 quietly brilliant, held back by a very dodgy ref
Dallas - 8.5 modern day Madley
Raphinha - 8 always an outlet
Rodrigo - 8 the little touches show he is a class above
Harrison - 7 up and down game, awesome way to beat an offside trap though
Bamford - 5
subs
Struijk 8.5 Best game in a Leeds shirt? deffo didn't look like a 4th or 5th choice CB
Klich - 5.5 out of sorts
Roberts 7.5 direct and exciting
Every game I predict a 3 - 1 Leeds win, I am traditional like that.

Poor performance but i guess 3 points is what really matters.

Meslier 7: Didn't have a lot to do, especially first half, a couple of top saves and his distribution was largely sound throughtout.

Ayling 3: Bill back in his favoured position but he was poor, especially defensively. Just not his night, we know he is one of our better players.

Llorente N/A Oh Dear.

Cooper 5: Some good interceptions first half, poor passing and wayward second half. Got worse again as the game wore on

Alioski 3: All over the shop.

Phillips 3: Not his best game Phillips. This is usually his sort of game where teams sit deep and allow him to dictate. Looked rusty like quite afew of his team mates.

Dallas 4: Started like a train with some lovely passes and link up play, faded into obscurity like most of his team mates second half.

Raphinha 7: Our best finisher, our best creator, our best attacking header, quickly establishing himself has our best player.

Rodrigo 6: Got into some nice positions, nice shot just wide of the post. Better game but still not the answer in Midfield. We need a proper all rounder in there, someone who can tackle and burst forward.

Harrison 6: Extra point for the goal, worked hard has usual. He should have done better with the difficult volley.

Bamford 2: Its not happening for Paddy at the minute and his team mates. Half the time when we cross into the box there is only Paddy there so the cross has to be inch perfect. He's not a very good header of the ball.

subs
Struijk 5: Played well when we controlled the game first half. When we face a bit of pressure we go to pieces defensively.

Klich 4: Not sure why he was dropped? We are a better team with Klich on the pitch, but today didn't really fill that void in Midfield.

Roberts 4: Not the answer for me at number 9 but the boss likes him.

Messlier - 7 - Couple of good saves thought the first straight at him, did drop a cross
Ayling - 7 - Looked dangerous going forward again, like he plays narrower at times
Alioski - 3 - Well off his game today
Cooper - 4 - didn't like playing on the right and got caught a few times
Struijk - 6 - Solid, in the right place a couple of times, not least the drop and Shelvy's run. Twice passed to the opposition when passing out though
Phillips - 5 - Run ragged by there midfield, anonymous for a lot of the game
Dallas - 5 - Not helped by the position change, one nice cross and one good run..
Rodrigo - 7.5 - Class for the most part, good effort but loses .5 for the dive
Raphinha - 9 - Best player on the park for us by a distance even with that WTF back pass
Harrison - 8 - Defended well, played well back to front and like so many of our good counters started it all off for his goal
Bamford - - Doing him a favour yet again by not scoring him

Llorente - Not on long enough
Klich - 7 - He needs to start, not the kind of player you want coming off the bench and it took 15 minutes to get into the game..Should have won a pen
Roberts - 7.5 - Looks a better footballer than Paddy everytime I see him

Tough game today and three points is three points. As some have said elsewhere, some good individual performances without a good team game, and we were also bullied a lot with Newcastle throwing caution to the wind looking for a win knowing a loss outs them in dire trouble.

Meslier - 7
A couple of heart in mouth moments (dropping the ball from a corner, and dropping the shoulder to dribble out when pressed), but made some excellent saves, and nearly got a big hand to deny the Newcastle equalizer that just had too much power.

Ayling - 6
Decent first quarter and decent end to the game, but struggled once Newcastle pressed high, and particularly when St.Max came on.

Llorente - N/A
Got to feel for the guy. By all accounts left the field in tears so you could see what it meant to him. Disappointing for fans as I think this guy is a real baller when fit. We need a CB backup as it looks like he's laid off now for the rest of the season IMO.

Cooper - 5
Beaten in the air often, and struggled with the Newcastle press. Didn't seem to see him rollocking his team like a good captain should.

Alioski - 3
Started off brightly but faded fast. Not a good choice for LB when opposition press high.

Phillips - 5
Too much space for Phillips to cover and was given the run around in the second half by Newcastle.

Dallas - 6
Tough to score Dallas. At times he had a decent game, especially first half and beginning of second, but yet never really provided that edge we needed in midfield. Better when moved to LB.

Raphinha - 9
MOTM. Lovely goal, lovely assist, ran his socks off and was our best creative outlet. We'll be lucky to hold on to him this summer.

Rodrigo - 8
Some lovely touches, and a great assist to get us going. Also made up for his poor defending last time round by tracking back and getting stuck in.

Harrison - 8
Happy for Jack getting a goal. Stayed onside well, and tucked his goal away with aplomb. Noticed he tracked and ran his heart out defending the flanks too. If Jack converted even just a few more of his chances he'd comfortably be one of the top scorers in the league.

Bamford -2
Anonymous for the most part. Not sure why he's not getting in the game right now, but he needs to look at his positioning.

Subs:
Struijk - 7
Excellent for the most part and one goal saving tackle/interception. Seemed to be in the right places and kept a cool head when pressed hard in the first half; you could see Newcastle targeting him. His performance will have done him the world of good for his confidence, as he's sure to start our next game in the same position.

Klich - 5
Started to get into the game when the final whistle was due, but still looks leggy. Could have, and should have (IMO) won a penalty.

Roberts - 5
Bright, without doing too much, but offered something different and gave the Barcodes defenders something different to think about.

Bonus:
Referee - 2
I thought the referee was very poor. Allowed so many yellow card offences by Newcastle go. Twice Wilson nailed Meslier, the second time being intentional. In the second half he bought a lot of falling over by Newcastle too. I know as Leeds fans we think the refs are against us, but this game only highlights it.

Next Game:
I am starting to come round to moving Rodders up front with Hernandez behind. I'd even consider Roberts to start at #9. I think PAddy needs a breather and some competition for his place. Klich has to start too (again because we have no other option), with Dallas back to LB.

The game did nothing to sway me from my position that a 10/14 day lay-off is to much, especially at the mid point of the season, 6 days tops for me.

Meslier - 7
One or two "heart in mouth moents but he overcome them. Took 2 good hits to the head today, and shook them off. Diabolical the ref did not call the 2nd one, trailing foot deliberate.
Ayling - 6
Going to call it an off day for Luke questionable effort by him on their goal...2nd half St-Max owned him.
Llorente N/A
Really feeling it for this lad, has the "waste of money crowd" out against him already. Looked like a hamstring to me , which is always a big risk 1st game back after a lay off, cruising in an u23 match for 45 minutes is not enough.
Cooper - 6
Did not seem to settle today, one or two terrible passes.
Alioski -5
Stormed from the off as per...soon became erratic and seemd to be very easily bullied of the ball today
Phillips -5
We are expecting far too much of KP, he can boss one or two teams but when the opps has runners in the middle no man can cover all that alone.
Dallas -6
Always has that air of a threat, but again another erratic performance...no help to KP
Raphinha -8 (MotM)
Quickly becoming our main man, lots of effort constant threat...nicely taken goal
Rodrigo -6.5....Would have been 7.5 but he needs to know LEEDS UNITED PLAYERS DO NOT FALL DOWN, 'twas an embarressment, lets hope he gets told about that.
Love what he is bringing to the park, couple of good interactions between him, Raph & Paddy (need to see more from the "3 left peggers")
Harrison - 6.5
Difficult to gauge today...seemed to go missing awhile, a beautifully taken goal.
Bamford -4
My boy is missing half a yard just now, but the positive is him, Rodders and Raph seem to be clicking....If we are going to cross when Paddy is by himself in the box they have to be much better crosses.
subs
Struijk -7
Overall steady when he came on, seemed to feel the pressure a bit in the 2nd half, but the whole team was.
Klich -6.5
Not sure why he was left out, but MB has his reasons... needed to help out KP more when he came on.
Roberts -6
Lots of energy, still do not see him as a striker.

Meslier 7 - some good solid saves, terrifyingly calm playing short passing around the square. Why can’t someone teach him how to catch a ball?

Ayling 5.5 - a good addition to our right side in the first half. Skinned alive by St. Maxime. Made to look so slow that it is a worry.

Cooper 5 - reasonably solid, and did a little better under crosses but some reckless passing errors.

Alioski 3 - never looked comfortable and got worse from there.

Phillips 5.5 - dragged out of the game, passed poorly, just never got going.

Dallas 5 - moved so often it’s not funny. Solid but looks tired.

Raphinha 8 - a class above everyone on the pitch. We need to build around him. Great vision.

Rodrigo 7.5 - good performance. Linking nicely with Raphinha. Holds up the ball so well and good to see a bit of bite in him.

Harrison 7 - offers a constant threat, scored a top class goal but did appear very tired tonight. Couldn’t even celebrate his goal properly.

Bamford 3 - very poor tonight. Dithered on the ball in good positions, missed a free header, poor work rate and gave away the ball cheaplyin the lead up to their goal.

subs
Struijk 6.5 - after such a poor game at DM he reminded everyone what his proper position is tonight. Solid, physical and calm.
Klich 5 - doesn’t seem to be able to get up to match speed at the moment. Big loss, need him back badly.

Roberts 6 - worked his ass off, which we needed big style. Some good touches and passes.

Meslier 7
Made a couple of decent save, the young man must wonder what the hell is going on in front of him with our calamity defending from much more experienced players

Ayling 6
Had some very good & poor moments too

Llorente N/A

Cooper 5
Some woeful passes from the back, lost many headers, appeared nervous throughout the game

Alioski 2
One of his naughty schoolboy games, appeared totally lost, headless chicken comes to mind.

Phillips 5
Nowhere near his best

Dallas 5
Not a central midfielder, once taken away from his wing-back role Dallas is out of his comfort zone

Raphinha 9
Now we are talking a class above, wonderful goal & a beautiful assist, worked hard too.

Rodrigo 8
Much better from our £27m man, Rod is on the same wavelength as Raph, some lovely passes.

Harrison 7.5
Super strike from Jack.

Bamford 2
Oh dear the Paddy of old, truly woeful even his pass for our first goal wasn't great.

subs

Struijk 7.5
Our only defender that stood up to the task, won headers at the back & was calm on the ball. Bielsa has to with Pascal as a CB, no prating about with Ayling or Phillips as our No.5.

Klich 5
His form is a concern, for an attacking midfielder he still doesn't score enough goals imo!

Roberts 6
Worked hard, much better than Paddy, still not the answer for me

How we win games with only five men showing their true form is quite incredible

It's strange how many players are out of form at the moment - Paddy, Phillips, Klich, Dallas and Cooper. Ayling to some extent. I wouldn't say Alioski is out of form as he's never been a LB anyway.

Meslier 7 - Made some good saves but he still worries me when he is pressurised with the ball at his feet

Ayling 4 - A poor game and he took a roasting off Saint-Maximin when he came on

Llorente N/A Devastating for him

Cooper 4 - Gave to ball away, got skinned several time and got bossed by Lascelles from set pieces

Alioski 3 - His strength is his overlapping runs but he's no defender. Almost cost us a goal withhis pfaffing about.

Struijk 7 - Our best defender on the night. Back in his best position.

Raphinha 8 - A goal and an assist plus he looked threatening every time he got the ball. Just hope the big boys don't come sniffing around him in the summer.

Phillips 5 - Okay first half but went missing in the second and another who got skinned by AS-M

Dallas 5 - Like Phillips, started well but disappeared

Harrison 7 - Excellent work rate and great finish. Also bailed Alioski out a couple of times with his tracking back

Rodrigo 7 - Much better from him. Improved work rate and looked up for it

Bamford 3 - Apart from having a hand in the build up for the first goal, did very little

Klich 5 - Didn't get into the game until right near the end.

Roberts 6 - Lively again. Looking a better bet than Paddy at the moment

Naturally they are finding their form much tougher to maintain at premier league level, it's a whole different ball game compared to the championship.

Exactly, and that's why we shouldn't expect them to win every game comfortably and cut 'em some slack

Surprised some thought Dallas was as good as Raphinha or even Rodrigo :o

Unsure if we'd have won that match without our two star signings.

Two things stand out in the ratings. Alioski is clearly not Prem class, although he's a good player and guaranteed to give 110% every game and Struijk deserves a chance at Centre Back. For me centre back is a specialised position and anyone can step in and have a good game but soon get found out over a number of games so let's stop playing people out of position and get a bit of a settled base at the back.
