Re: Leeds Utd v Southampton Match thread
could really do with a win...
losing three on the trot could start a bit of a downward spiral in which we start dropping down towards the relegation places
without KP we just seem unable to win though...

It sounds like a contrast in styles to me - they don't go for possession build up play, and prefer long direct balls into the final third as quickly as possible. Also, their two CMs seem to drop deep, with their wide midfielders sitting in the gap in front of them playing as kind of hybrid 10s, wingers or inside forwards - so the midfielders create a kind of box shape. I hope we don't get bossed in the middle of the park.Irish Ian wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 7:03 pm Interesting listening to one of the pre game pod casts today. The Southampton guy mentioned that Ralph Hasenhüttl is a bit like Bielsa in that he has plan A plan A or plan A. A very rigid system when either works well or the wheels come off... they have been missing a few key players so have been using the square peg round hole philosophy so well known by us.
They play 4-2-2-2 with their wing backs bombing down the outside and their two No10s pulling the oppos back line out of shape.
They are missing their RWB so Harrison should have some freedom.
Their new signing Takumi Minamino has started well with two goals in two and boy he looks hot!
They have an even more porous defence than us.![]()
Though Ralph Hasenhüttl is as safe in his job as Bielsa despite two 9-0 thrashings!
This could be a real good tactical battle. They love the middle of the pitch and we er... would like to as well...
0-0 written all over it![]()
They also press high, so we need to avoid getting in a tangle at the back when they do this. They are vulnerable to long balls to beat their pressing line, so Meslier hopefully will be going for long balls out when possible. When they create that box formation in the middle after the wide midfielders cut in they are vulnerable on the flanks - so long balls to the wing backs or wingers which beat their press might work well.
It sounds as though Llorente might be out again, so my guess is that we will play with 3 CBs - Cooper, Struijk and Ayling. Probably Dallas and Shacks as the wing backs.

It would be a real pity if we were to lose Aylings potency on the outside but you are probably right about three at the backCHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 12:59 pm It sounds like a contrast in styles to me - they don't go for possession build up play, and prefer long direct balls into the final third as quickly as possible. Though If we start that way I wonder if LLorente will begin, he wont get match fit sitting on the bench

Ahhhhh but he could be shooting at the wrong end.
I predict a 3-1 win for Leeds tonight.
Also I predict come the end of this season we will be above Liverpool.

Let's hope the new pitch has settled well and isn't like an ice hockey ground any more.

I trust Marcelo has seen the light with Dallas moving back to his LWB role just as he did in the last three or four months of our championship campaign. Struijk at CB was a imperative change of position too!

Re: Leeds Utd v Southampton Match Thread - Llorente replaces injured Shackleton
Shackleton injured again
This lad has no luck.
This will be fun if Llorente breaks down

I presume we will be starting with 3 CBs - so Llorente, Cooper and Strujik. Llorente is right footed, so I presume that either Cooper or Struijk will go left CB. Dallas left FB and Ayling right FB.

Big game this - I just hope Diego is up to 90 the minutes, Southampton look good up front when they're firing - let's start on the front foot and disrupt them from the off.
