Re: Peter Lorimer
One of the best strikers of a ball ever... If memory serves did they not have a competition once between Peter and Sir Bobby Charlton who struck the ball the hardest from a dead ball position, and Peter came out on top?

Re: Peter Lorimer
Loath to comment when it's only a rumour, but now that it has been confirmed by his family, it is so sad to see another of our Revie heroes close to the end. We have run out of stands and function rooms to name after Peter, but he is one of the true greats, and had a lot more in his locker than just a powerful shot .A very nice bloke as well to boot. Maybe we need a memorial garden, when they build the new training facility, or where they are building the new community hub.
There is also a rumour that Mick Bates is seriously ill with stomach cancer, but we will have to wait for confirmation on that one. A fine squad player, who never left the club when courted by other big sides. Fantastic cover for Bremner and Giles, and an excellent player in his own right.

Re: Peter Lorimer
If Mick's illness is true this is more sad news for the Leeds United family. Mick was an integral part of Revie's squad, a fine player indeedGandalf wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:04 pm There is also a rumour that Mick Bates is seriously ill with stomach cancer, but we will have to wait for confirmation on that one. Very under rated Mick Bates. Unfortunately as time ticks by for us the great players we watched pop of this mortal coil.

Peter scored some fantastic goals for Leeds but ironically it's the one he didn't score that I'll never forget and most on here won't either . Sunderland '73 and Jim Montgomery's double save.... unbelievable !

My memory too , was at Molyneux , easy ground for me to get to being from West Mids , though Albion was nearest for me . You would have that shot from 20 angles now .

Peter Lorimer was the first player I wanted to be. I wore number 7 as an eight year old in 1972. 1972 FA Cup final was the first game I watched Leeds play. RIP

Remember as a kid in Scotland playing footy and mimicking the Lorimer clap after scoring. True legend and sad news.

Re: Peter Lorimer
Mick Bates could have walked into most other teams in the league but was happy to be a perennial reserve at Leeds. You just don’t get that kind of commitment and dedication in football these days. Get well soon Mick!Gandalf wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:04 pm

Re: Peter Lorimer
Yes I remember so well watching that on television. As soon as the ball left Lorimer’s foot I was up, jumping over the sofa and dancing around the room, I just couldn’t believe it when my mum told me wasn’t a goal. That was another hard knock day for a young Leeds United fanatic.

Re: Peter Lorimer
My everlasting memory of my first Leeds game live, Sheff Utd v Leeds Feb 1966, a Lorimer bullet broke or dislocated keeper Alan Hodgkinson's finger and he had to go off ! Sadly Alan Woodward their winger went in goal and had a blinder. Drew 1-1.

Re: Peter Lorimer
Don't remember him as a player, but obviously like a lot of Irish Leeds fans heading over I've been to his pub, he served me pints, we made small talk. And it was so wonderfully typically Leeds United, no superstar nonsense, players who have always been connected to fans...
Lorimer, Peter
