After Leeds

Post by Cjay »

Only 2 of 12 teams who beat us have won there next league game.

May seem an irrelevant stat but interestingly i remember working the same stat out for our Championship seasons and it was very similar.

It was posted on here somewhere (no idea if someone is able to find it).

May just be a coincidence but makes you wonder.

Our dear friend Frank Lampard had his Chelsea team put in its best performance against us. . . They never hit those heights again to the point even Chelsea fans mentioned how playing us seemed to break Chelsea.

Could it be coincidence? Maybe.

But its odd how its been a common theme after playing us for a good few years now, teams rarely win.

We were commenting on this during the Villa game tonight.

Every manager seems to have their team wound up to the nth degree when they are heading out to face Leeds under Bielsa. I think they are genuinely afraid that they could get a real beating if all 11 don’t run their guts out against us.

As a result they are more focused than they would often be, they run harder and further than normal and it’s virtually treated as a cup final. The fact that they aren’t fit enough to this week in, week out, means that the price is paid in the next game, or two, or three!

26 teams after playing us this season.

6 of those teams won the next league game.

10 lost

10 drew.

In the 2018/2019 Championship season over 34 games.

8 teams won there next league game.

20 teams lost the next league game

6 teams drew.

So over 2 seasons of data with 60 games.

Only 14 teams won the next league game after playing us.

I think thats basically it.

Teams tend to have to run more against us than usual.

They have to track runners more they have a player following them man for man all the time it must be exhausting both mentally and physically.

Some teams can cope although they tend to simply be the better teams (Liverpool, City and Leicester (×2) represent 4 of the 6 times a team has won after playing us)

But the majority are exhausted and struggle hence only managing to draw or lose.
