This is so sad. Is god picking out our late 60s early 70s team? We don't have enough stands to name after all these great players. I saw him many times as a schoolkid in the teams' glory years. One simple memory I have is of standing in the stands at Elland Road, utterly frozen to the bone in mid-winter, waiting for the team to come out, to take our minds off the cold. Peter and a couple of others ran towards us knocking the ball about. I heard Peter say to one of the other players, "it's bloody freezing". Even Gods feel the cold!

I saw him many times in the Revie era and the electricity in the air was palpable whenever Peter had the ball within shooting distance (ie 35 yards). The best goal I remember was at Bramall Lane, which if I recall well was still a cricket ground, so one side of the pitch was open, which made it seem as if he was shooting from 80 yards out. Peter hit a screamer along the ground- it never got higher than the grass, but never seemed to hit the ground either. I swear people behind the goal moved out of the way in case it burst the net. Happy days, which is how I care to remember Peter and all his pals we have lost.

Echo everyone's thoughts and rememberances. A true legend who always excited the crowds when he was anywhere near his shooting distance.

Another one of our legendary heroes has faded into the sunset

I remember as a kid I broke a few windows when I was smashing my own hotshot and shouting Lorimer and then smash, time to run for it :)

Always remember Match of the Day starting with that brilliant goal he scored against Citeh

Sadly, not unexpected, but I always held the faint hope that he might pull through.

Another Revie legend gone. RIP Peter. Commiserations to his family and friends.

Only just seeing this, been outside gardening all morning.
Sad, sad news.
I got to have a conversation with him before a game against Colchester in League 1. Lovely bloke.
One of my all time favourite players.

Thanks Spotty I’m a similar age to you and I always wanted to be Lorimer whenever I played too so we probably share similar memories such a sad day

My over riding memory of Lorimer was when I was about 14/15. Out on my bike with my mates, one of whom was a Leeds fan and I used to go to the odd game with. We always had a radio with us to keep up with the scores and on this particular day we were playing a team we should beat but we lost thanks to two missed penalties by the legend himself

Remember feeling very annoyed at the time and calling him all kind of names.. Not the best memory to have but it is a strong one...can recall the exact spot we stopped, (just off the Hogs Back headed for Ash Green) the weather, (the sun was out but it wasn't hot, just nicely warm), and what I had for tea later (sprats, rolled in flour and fried, with freshly warmed French bread)...

Another of the greats gone. Very sad.
I remember playing for my school against a team in Leeds. When we got to their fields we noticed all the nets were hanging off the posts with great big holes in them. Someone immediately remarked "Oh this must be Peter Lorimer's old school". :)

Sad news from a Rangers fan who always had a soft spot for Leeds since 72- Remember his World Cup rocket shot for Scotland v Zaire in World Cup 1974.
