Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 14th April) Kris Boyd - Leeds rant on Sky Sports

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 14th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Kris Boyd - Leeds rant on Sky Sports

Rangers legend Kris Boyd launched a ferocious attack on Marcelo Bielsa on Sky Sports at the weekend, claiming the Argentine is only doing what the Blades did last season. He even suggested that with the amount Bielsa spent last Summer, the Whites should be further up the pecking order!

Boyd: "But I think a lot of is overhyped as well, when you take into consideration what Leeds are spending, there's a lot of their players probably having their best season ever. "I think Patrick Bamford is only a couple of goals away from his best season ever which is fantastic but there's a lot of things pointing here to the fact they might, a lot of their players might be overachieving.

"All we here is Marcelo Bielsa is this master tactician, Chris Wilder did the exact same last season. "I know there were some plaudits there but when you take into consideration at what Leeds are spending, I think they maybe should be doing even better."

Stelling: "Kris, where have they spent big, who have they spent big on?"

Boyd: "Look at their transfer in the summer, I'll let you work it out and come back to me Jeff. You go and look at the money they spent in the summer.

Stelling: "Yeah, you tell me, what money did they spend in the summer? Raphinha cost £17m, Isn't that, you know...?"

Boyd: "It was nearly £100m in the summer they spent coming up. They spent a lot of money and a lot of people are speaking about Bielsa and the way they've gone about it. They've been a fantastic watch but it is so open. The games are so open. "A lot of people are delighted with the job Bielsa has done...next season, next season we will see."

Stelling: "Kris, some of the sides they are playing against have spent as much on one player as Leeds United have spent on their entire squad."

Boyd: "Jeff, I think if you go and look at the goal scored against..."

Stelling: "Just over £100m on nine players. Is that a huge amount?"

Boyd: "Jeff, now we are getting there, because you said what money did they spend, a £100m is a lot of money."

Stelling: "Well, you've gone up the Premier League, you've bought nine players, you've not gone up and bought a 50, 60, £70m player, have they? "What, not spend any money and go straight back down again? What about when they've gone to Leicester and won, gone to Aston Villa and won? "They've been brilliant at times."

Hay reveals top three players

Phil Hay was recently asked who his top three players were. The Athletic journalist replied;

I’m going 1) Stuart Dallas 2) Patrick Bamford 3) Raphinha. I went for Dallas as player of the year last season as well. I’ve almost run out of things to say about him. He’s like the T-1000 from Terminator. Tell him to be a goalkeeper and he turns himself into one (without indiscriminately killing people at the same time).

When asked whether Dallas will keep his place next season, Hay replied;
That probably depends on two things — whether Klich can rediscover his mojo and which midfielders arrive in the transfer window. But in this form, it would be very difficult to drop him. From right winger through right-back and left-back, he’s actually starting to look like a quality centre-mid.

Leeds linked to central defenders

Italian outlet Tutto Mercato claim that Leeds have made enquiries about Sampdoria's Omar Colley. Standing at 6ft 3', the centre back is unsurprisingly known for his ability to defend set pieces. The 28 year old has represented Gambia on 24 occasions. With Cooper, Llorente, Struijk and Koch all vying for two places, why would Leeds be interested in another centre back, especially one that signed a four year extension only months ago!

Other media reports this morning suggest that the Whites are monitoring Torino centre back Nicolas Nkoulou. Bielsa knows the player well, having coached him during his tenure at Marseille. He's 31 and has 75 International caps for Cameroon. Nkoulou will become a free agent this Summer. With four fit central defenders do we really need to strengthen in this area over the summer?

G'mornin :)

Kris Boyd

Failed in English football, that makes his opinion invalid. He probably also is another of these Z List pundits who feel the need to say something controversial to be edgy and interesting to try and get more work.

We then went and beat Man City and made him look a twat. Fair play to Jeff Stelling who did a very good job of doing that to.

Phil's top 3.

The Leon's coach people will explode with rage because he hasnt picked KP :)

I think that 3 is fair.

Defenders.

Cant see us signing cbs unless one leaves or maybe unless MB decides one of them is a backup midfielder now?

Talk that Raph was seen on crutches and The Athletic reporting that he will miss a few weeks.

Not Phil Hay saying it but even so.

Asked for an update on the Brazilian, Bielsa said: “I haven’t asked, but don’t have the feeling it is anything serious.”

Kris Boyd's comments are about as relevant as getting Peter Shilton in to talk about Spygate.

I did wonder about Raphinha playing this weekend when I saw the photo of his thigh bandaged. I'll be gutted if he misses it mainly because he didn't play at Anfield.

Difficult to pin it down to three imo!

Important players & those we miss when unavailable + my best six of the season are:

Dallas
Raphinha
Phillips
Bamford
Llorente
Ayling

First names on the team sheet imo!

Then there's Meslier of course, you wouldn't trust Kiko between the sticks for a sustained period.

You missed out Alioski :duno:

So who would you give Player of the year to?

If you had to pick now.

I think after much thought id go for Raphinha.

I think his consistency alone wins it for me, he hasnt had a bad game and is right up there for all the stats.

Goals, assiss, sprints, chances created etc.

I don't think anybody could definitively name the three most important players for Leeds this year. So many major contributions to outcomes from all over the pitch at different times, how would you prioritise? We needed Bamford's goals, but who supplied them? Did the defenders then supply the midfield, etc., etc... Meslier at the other end, keeping us in games.

I was talking to a few old lads (70s/80s) here in NI yesterday, all raving about the Man City result. What a time to be Leeds. :)

Kris Boyd

Looking to get a headline and got one.

Dallas just ahead of Raphinha mainly because of his versatility I fear Raph will miss next week.

Centre backs? Really?
I would be happy for us to sell Cooper and bring through one of the other U23s

Absolutely. Let young Cresswell sit on the bench and learn from the other three.

It has the be Stuart Dallas for POTS. His versatility and consistency has been incredible this season.
Raphinha would be pushing him close had he not missed the start of the season.
I'd go for Phillips or Ayling in third.

Another difficult question CJay

Raphinha gives us the class & pace required at PL level, something no other player can offer on a consistent basis.

Dallas has been a revelation imo!, his versatility is immense. I think Bielsa may have found his best position.

I would say one of those two if pushed for an answer

Have to agree with this.

Can only imagine what our season would have looked like had Llorente been available from the start. He's been immense of late.

The less said about that schmuck Kris Boyd the better. He's trolling, obviously.

A month ago we all would have said center back was one of our most glaring weaknesses. Not so any longer. We're loaded there.

Dallas, Klich, Phillips, Raph, Jack, Ayling would be my 6 best of the season right now...

No idea who Kris Boyd is, our his qualifications for denigrating us....

Another clueless muppet who hasn't done their research. How can our success be all down to our signings when they've been injured all season? It's the Championship squad plus Raphinha pretty much. One thing people forget is none of our squad had experienced PL football, except for Costa and Pablo.

Sheffield United got loads of praise last season, as did Wilder. He was being suggested for top 6 clubs all season.

Kris Boyd, twit!

I seem to remember I had Stuey Dallas as my player of the season last year and so far with 7 games to go I can’t look any further than him again. Honourable mentions obviously for Phillips, Raphinha, Ayling, Meslier and Bamford but what an asset to have at our football club, Dallas is a diamond.

Kris Boyd:
Was looking for a headline, and ended up looking a proper prat. I love how Stelling stumps him.

Defenders:
I wouldn't say it is priority, but if we were to suddenly find ourselves without two of our 4 CBs like we did for much of this season, we'd be thinking differently. Might be time to start thinking of bringing Cresswell through as finding a quality CB to effectively bench-warm isn't going to be easy.

POTS:
Hard to look past Dallas, but picking the other top 2 would be immensely difficult. The remaining two would be made up of, in no particular order, Raphinha, Bamford, KP, Meslier. Honourable mentions to Llorente (for his form of late), Ayling, Klich (beginning of season) and Alioski; simply because he's been repeatedly asked to do a job in a position that he's not comfortable with and got on with it.

Rapha Vs Liverpool:
A note on Raphinha. I truly hope he's not crocked for the Liverpool game as I reckon Harrison and Raph as our wingers could give Trent and Robertson a torrid time, even moreso with the uncertainty between their makeshift CBs too. I'd love us to play them at full strength and give them a proper game.
