West Ham fan.

Apologies.

But at a time like this all fans from every team outside of the 6 sordid merchants of greed need to stand up and be counted.

Well done for the protest. Respect.

No need to apologise and thanks.

I'm sure there are many fans of the big six (for want of a better phrase) who are also very much opposed to the idea, especially the long-term fans.

The “proper” fans of the “big 6” really do need to make a massive fuss over this, it is nothing more than a hijacking of traditional English and European football to attract and suit the massive money making potential of the armchair fan in Asia (Specifically China and India) and the United States.

I expect it won’t be long before some of the games will start to be played in America and Asia and from there it’s not too unrealistic to suppose that the teams will be changing there bases and become say Beijing Scousers, Inter New Delhi or Cincinnati Scum.

“Big 6” fans be warned!

I work with a fair few Hammers fans so have a good bit of time for them , always seem fair ........anyway , this goes beyond any club rivalries , we are all together and United on this one . The 6 trying to put a spin on it now that they aren't guilty , only trying to advance the game etc etc ...........bullshit , they are just trying to line their pockets at the rest expense . It's like a burglar breaking into your home and while you resist he says you are denying him his livelihood .They are beyond crazy , they left the real world eons ago .
I reckon Spurs are there as they realised they all needed a whipping boy in the league . Spurs are arrogant enough to think they are a huge club .
Maybe the original 12 league founders should start a league all over again , the original 12 . Maybe we could all have leagues of our own 😀. I wonder if covid affects the brain in the USA .

Pep speaks out
We need more of this, we need the managers like Zidane, Conte, Arteta etc to speak out

Definitely need Messi and Ronaldo to speak out to.

Jordan Henderson has called an emergency meeting of all Premier league captains.

Sky and now Amazon have released statements condemning the Super League and insisting they have had nothing to do with it.

Pep there denouncing Golf, cricket, all American sports and yes some areas of football, in one fell generalisation there ...Ask a Raider fan what it's like to lose season after season. Losing always matters because you ain't winning.

If this goes ahead and it's a big if then 2 divisions of 10 playing twice is nineteen games, plus another 3 if you get to the final. Think that's right. Add the 38 game Prem season takes you up to a 60 game season. I'd guess at that point the ESL teams would play U23's and reserves in the prem knowing they can't be relegated from the ESL

That actually means that the premiership becomes a fairer competition, I'd imagine UEFA would still run their version so the likes of West Ham and Leicester and even us would qualify for that as it stands.

I wanna see it happen, call their bluff. We need to get away from pandering to the top 6 as all that does is create more of an unequal playing field every time they threaten and the Premiership negotiate to accommodate.
Great post mate - it's made my similar one redundant.

What everyone has to realise about all American professional sports is that there's no system of promotion and relegation in any of them - thus the same teams get to stay in the same boring leagues all the time making money from the spectators and TV fans who have never experienced genuine competition except for their ridiculously-named cup finals, like (as Rab said) the World (U.S. or North-American) Series.

As that system will never be changed I just don't watch professional sports over here.

This is not an anti-US post btw. I've lived here over 24 years and am happy with the place, but their professional sports suck because of the above.

I know cricket comes under a similar system but there's lots of international stuff going on too.

I don't think any other nation wants basketball and few have serious Baseball and U.S. Football.

I agree, Norm.

Too many owners here are content to do nothing to improve their teams as there is no down side to losing. They are content to take their millions from television contracts and be on their merry little way. We just started a new baseball season and not only do over half the teams stand no chance of winning this year, they stand no chance of winning ANY year. And why should they care? Even the worst of them are guaranteed both a place in the league and a profit.

It's terrible, and it's devastating to see this sort of thinking come to football.

That's judging by a competitive standard. This is all about the money.

Bielsa was right, it's all been building up to this as money has slowly but surely taken over the game starting with the Premier League itself (possibly some signs before that but it would be before my time).

I mean no disrespect here mate but in my experience having a very close American friend who's a sports fan, there are several cultural factors that seem to be built into this but I perceive it to be almost like a desire for soap opera-like entertainment over real competition. The illusion of competition with no real consequences to get a facsimile of those emotions without the fear of say, what Leeds have been through and only just now climbing out of.

It's like WWE wrestling versus the real thing, it's about the show - all glitz and glamour but none of the grit. And it can certainly be good entertainment performed by talented athletes, but entertainment all the same with the sitcom-esque promise of a new episode every week...until people stop watching.
