Stuart Madeley, er, I mean, Paul Dallas - oh, whatever!

I can remember some posts in past seasons - statements which now look as farcical as they sounded to me then - stating him to be a plodder, etc. The man is all heart and resilient. I don't think Marcelo had anything to do with his improvement!

Wish I could take credit for this one:

Player of the Year signs new deal.

Leeds United are delighted Stuart Dallas has today agreed a new contract with the club.

The Northern Ireland international has penned a three-year deal, keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2024.

Dallas is one of the longest serving players at the club, having joined from Brentford back in 2015.

Under head coach Marcelo Bielsa who arrived at the club in 2018, Dallas has flourished playing in a variety of positions across the team.

Missing just one league match in the 2019/20 campaign, Dallas helped the Whites secure the Sky Bet Championship title and was voted the Players’ Player of the Year.

Last season, he was one of the standout players in the Premier League, starting all 38 games for Leeds, scoring eight goals, including a memorable late winner away at Manchester City in April.

His fine performances led to him winning the Goal of the Season, along with being named both the Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 229 appearances so far during his time with the Whites, whilst has also won 56 caps for Northern Ireland and captained his country in their recent international matches against Malta and Ukraine.

Great news and at the moment one of the first names on the teamsheet irrespective of who we might buy

No problem with Dallas just think a 2 year contract would have been more realistic.

Equally though if he'd been offered 2 years he might have felt under-appreciated and not signed then left us for nothing at the end of next season. Think it's a good deal and at the end of the deal he'll have been with the club 9 years - hopefully he will still be going strong and stay on and get a testimonial for 10 years at the club. No reason why he doesn't continue to improve as he gets even more familiar with the 'new' positions he has been playing under Bielsa.

Just think we have a few of the older players on long contracts which could cost us money in the long run.

Of all the players, I think it's fair to say that Dallas will offer value even in year three, with his leadership off the field as well as on it.

A two year might look niggardly to young and prospective players - after all, if Leeds suggest they don't value their player of the year and fan favourite sufficiently at this moment in time, others will feel sure they'll get the same treatment in future. Commitment works two ways.

And did I mention he's brilliant? If he and the rest keep us in the PL in the interim the additional year's wages will be academic.
