Maybe he is right and they arent good enough? In which case Kinnear shouldn't be talking them up as options.

But the fact he used none of them tonight is a very worrying thing imo if this is to be our squad.

On one hand I understand the need to get more minutes into the first team squad and not unsettling the defence too much, but not trusting any of the U23s is a worry for me, particularly Summerville who couldn't have done much worse than Costa tonight by all accounts. I can foresee us being in dire straits this season if/when the inevitable suspensions and injuries all come along at the same time.

I'm all for playing a strong side and having a cup run, but I don't see how we'd be any worse off trying Summerville over Costa or Gelhardt/Greenwood over Roberts?

Look if Roberts, Costa and Rodrigo had taken their chances tonight we would have saw a few U23s get some minutes.

If they aren't good enough that is fine but then Kinnear shouldn't be using them in his defence of our transfer window.

As it is i actually do think we overrate our u23s greatly as a fanbase but if MB doesnt rate any of them as seems likely then that is worrying as it stands now with seemingly no hope of reinforcements for the first team.

To be fair, Crewe defended like their lives depended on it. I remember us defending just like that against Arsenal? Throwing everyone against everything. Possibly the season before we were relegated from the premier league. (I could be wrong and I dont mind being corrected )You know, football is about attacking AND defending. Crewe defended very well, credit where credits due

I've always championed Struijk since I saw him about 2-3 years ago in an under 23's, in fact I remember quite a few on here who were impressed with him and were delighted, as was I that he is now a first team squad regular
