Re: Helder Costa- Valencia loan deal closing in
Wolves paid 13m for him, he was subsequently their player of the season, went on to play 30 times in the Premier League and was capped by Portugal. I think many would be optimistic that his career was heading up and remember thinking it was a great signing of Leeds ambition to bring him in.
It hasn't worked out, hope he does well at Valencia and either comes back having rediscovered his form or Leeds recoup some of the fee.

If Costa had cost us under £5m & wasn't on a high salary I wouldn't have been too bothered about his extremely inconsistent form at Leeds.White Riot wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 6:40 am You've summed it up well Leon![]()
Another expensive flop, to accompany JKA.
For me the likes of him and Roberts have failed to progress under MB. If you're unable to develop with Bielsas mentoring then when and where are you gonna progress?
Admittedly Costa n Roberts were recruited at Championship level and for me they ain't up to EPL standard. It should and will be a natural progression of the squad that we replace those who are incapable of producing at this level.
We should be aiming high, and Dan James is an indication of that ambition. So the likes of Cooper, Ayling, Dallas, Roberts, will all eventually drop to the bench and be replaced.
If they are producing in the first eleven then they keep the shirt until someone takes it off them.
Competition for places is healthy and essential.
When you look at the immense contribution given from the likes of Meslier, Ayling, Dallas, Cooper, Klich, Struijk, our very own Kalvin, Bamford (£7m), even Alioski & White on loan, then along comes Costa plodding about the pitch not showing the quality he supposedly possessed & lacking effort too imo. So so frustrating!

I wish him well in the future too, as you say Mountain if he rediscovers some good form it could benefit Leeds financially.Mountain wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 7:17 am Wolves paid 13m for him, he was subsequently their player of the season, went on to play 30 times in the Premier League and was capped by Portugal. Re: Helder Costa- Valencia loan deal closing in
According to salarysport.com Costa was on 36K per week or 1.87M per year.
Will be nice to get at least most of that off our books.
TBF I would be happy if we could half of what we paid Wolves back for him as I believe his presence was hampering the progress of some of our fringe players.
Wish him well but he just wasn't the right fit for us I'm afraid. Shame it took 2 years for the club to find out.

Wasnt talking about Costa Leon
I was referring to the "likes of ... Dallas" comment
Ridiculous really after the levels he achieves for us.

Apparently Valencia wanted the option to buy him but Leeds refused.

At what he does, I doubt there are 3 better players in the division...

There is an option to buy. Reports say for 10 million euros, so let's hope he does well.
Apprently valencia have paid a 2 mill euro loan fee and will pay half of his wages

It's amazing how tight Leeds keep the wage bill. The average wage for a member of the first team squad in the EPL is 60k per week. Costa may not have set the world alight at Leeds, but on the other hand it seems like he was on low enough wages so it was not the biggest gamble ever. It hasn't worked out, good luck to him.Johnboy1965 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 7:58 am According to salarysport.com Costa was on 36K per week or 1.87M per year.

Even more amazing is that our player of the season Stuart Dallas is "only" on 23K a week according to the same sourceMountain wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:44 am It's amazing how tight Leeds keep the wage bill. Spotrac are brilliant for US sports, I don't think their football numbers quite stack up

Whats that about £8million in total?
Pretty poor return for a player we spent £21mil on just 12 months ago.
Something i suppose.

He will probably do better in La Liga as it's not as physical as the PL. It was the physicality he struggled with I felt especially when trying to defend.
Hopefully he will do well and we can get a better return than the reported 10M Euros if Valencia do decide to buy.
