Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 15th October) - Raphinha steals the show for Brazil

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 15th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Raphinha steals the show

Raphinha's fairytale start to his International career continued after helping himself to a brace during Brazil's 4-1 win over Uruguay in the early hours of the morning. The 24 year old registered four shots, all on target, as well as a key pass. He missed out on his hattrick after being substituted twenty minutes from time. The one position Brazil never run out of is forwards; the fact Raph has broken into their senior ranks proves what a special player he is! He was awarded a 9/10 ranking; the same as Naymar.

Deco - Leeds wanted Raph for another season

During an interview earlier this week, Raphinha's agent Deco revealed that whilst the Brazilian is happy at Leeds, there will come a time that he moves on to a bigger club. He further indicated that Leeds wanted him to stay this season, insinuating his client may be sold next Summer!

There are certainly many clubs interested in him. Liverpool do like him and there were some approaches, but nothing official. Leeds wanted to keep him for another season. Raphinha is happy at Leeds, but there will certainly come a time when he wants to take a step up in his career and move forward. He has three years left on his contract, but there's nothing in it that states how long he must stay for or that prevents transfers.

Leeds are aware of that and will want to sell him for a big sum, while Raphinha will end up progressing in his career. There's a market for Raphinha and Leeds have very high expectations. There's never been a rush in terms of the project. He's ambitious to play at a higher level, despite Leeds being in the Premier League, but it's not the right time (to talk about that) and that's not what he's focused on. Things will take their course naturally.

Given his performances on the World stage, how long can we realistically keep hold of Raphinha for? Or should we just stop worrying about it and enjoy the fact that Leeds United have a genuine Brazilian superstar in the team?

Has Leeds inactivity last Summer pushed the likes of Raph and Phillips closer to the exit door?

Whilst we're all appreciative of what Andrea Radrizani has done for our club, many can't help thinking that the knock on effect of a poor transfer window (last Summer) shows a lack of ambition. Leeds were riding the crest of a wave, and had the tools (in the shape of investors queuing up and the guile of Victor Orta) to move to the next level.

Unfortunately it was not meant to be! Whilst producing and nurturing some of the best talent in the World, in the shape of Phillips, Raphinha and Meslier; all want to be playing at the highest level, or at least at a club showing aspirations of European football. This prompts the question, has Leeds inactivity in last Summer's transfer window pushed our stars closer to the exit door?

Well said. Now we have James, one of the fastest wingers in the entire league, why not play Raphinha in a more central role!

Hahahaha.

It seems whatever the story is the story is Leeds "lack of ambition in the transfer market"

Get a grip.

Barring injury KP and Raphinha, Llorente, Rodrigo, Koch, and probably Cooper, James and Roberts ;-) , will get their chance to shine on the biggest stage at the World Cup next year.

So the interest and speculation around Raphinha and KP will raise to fever pitch and you could say that Deco is just stoking the fire a bit.

If we're looking to keep hold of KP and Raphinha this is bad news, but if Radz and the gang are looking to sell it's bumping up the price.

With KP having a Leeds background I could see that he might stay, but I don't see any chance of Raphinha staying at Leeds beyond next summer. That's really sad for me as he's one of the most skilful players we've ever had.

We invested heavily on our return to the Prem, but so far, due to a number of factors only Raphinha has made a big splash from last summer's transfers

We've added James and Firpo, who both look promising and I think will prove themselves. But we still didn't get the playmaker we're lacking.

Is the club's hurry to tie KP down due to the fact that he's a player that's integral to our team? If spent wisely then the money from Raphinha can improve the quality of our squad

It would be really nice if Bate and Gelhardt can break into the first team this season and propel us forward. A number of the first team squad are around the 30 mark, so the process of squad rejuvenation and improvement should be ramped up in the short term, or we're in danger of dropping further behind the top half of the table.

KP won't be hanging around if we don't progress, as he's already performing at the highest level, same as Raphinha.

We might have one in Bate if Bielsa will give him minutes in the first team, rather than persisting with the likes of Roberts, and the recently departed Costa.

I see all this talk about lack of ambition and signings and that's pushing Raphinha out the door.

For clarification, exactly which signing would persuade him to stay? Are we talking Coonr Gallagher, Lewis O'Brien or Messi?

The article raises a question whether the lack of investment last Summer will be a contributing factor if our stars make a hasty exit next year!

We're dropping points because of it.

We have one (scoring) striker in Bamford (who is still sidelined btw and won't be playing tomorrow). We don't have a backup (that Bielsa will use).

Nobody would read it mate.

They'll be too busy looking at the financial forecast from the ground expansion and the sale of Raphinha :$$:

I imagine Radz sat up to watch Raphinha playing for Brazil with his calculator in one hand, c**k in the other and grinning like a Cheshire cat 🐱

That's what I thought was Bielsa's initial intention when we signed James.

Yes mate, Radz will be as happy as Raphinha's agent with the profit we'll make on our star winger. Only natural for any owner of a football club.

Frustrating knowing we have an amazing player on our hands and we are just awaiting the vultures to land, hopefully it's only speculation / paper talk / agent spouting off, and we can keep him and the other players, if we become a selling again club what's the flaming point !!
Selling Rapha & KP may generate big bucks, but, what will we do with the brass, we didn't buy where we needed to in summer, so what will we do with in excess of say £150 million ?
I'd put a minimum of £120 million on both players now, give us supporters some belief and have a Levy stance.
I shudder when the world is speculating and United say nothing to calm the fans.

Imagine how Rapha feels now he's on his way back to play with players who are yet to realize that the ball needs to go in the net to score. Must be really exhilarating for him.

Raph was never planning to see out his contract EB. Look t his past trajectory and that is obvious, he saw Leeds as a step into the PL limelight, has worked his socks off every game to get noticed, has produced it in spades and has deserved his call up.
But the only way Raph was staying with us was if he was average. Thankfully from that first little trick he did when he came on at Crystal Palace last year we have watched him sparkle. Leeds are no where near in a position for European football never mind actually being a threat in that area. I just hope that when he does leave we cash in big and he goes to Spain.

KP. Only reason he is still here is his personal love for Leeds and perhaps that will be reward enough.

Meslier has a long way to go to be a top keeper. He would be an idiot to leave and be and be an understudy elsewhere.

Re transfers....all the clamour was for midfield not a striker. Also Bamford could have left last summer, as could Mes and Raph we are told. But they didn't.
Also it takes many transfer windows to rebuild. And seeing the January one rarely works at Leeds it takes more patience.

I just seem to read that whatever the story is it is somehow linked to us not recruiting well last summer. Even if we had splurged big it means nothing if those players cant stay fit, fit in, etc.

I watched a clip of his skills on YouTube and even in a short clip you can clearly see his frustration when he's put killer passes and killer crosses into the box for us and our Specsavers brigade are blazing their shots wide of the goals.

Perhaps Neymar fluffing his lines the other night when Raph put it on a plate for him might bring some balance to the equation.

Neymar had a great game against Uruguay and ran the show in the final third. Raphinha is already a star in a team full of stars, but you can see he's awestruck playing with Neymar.

I think Raphinha's outgrown us in a short period of time and it's inevitable that he needs to move on.

Agreed.

Also If he provides as much this season as last we will have no worries staying in the Prem.

Yeah, I'm not worried about relegation, there's more than three teams way worse than us in this division.

If we can keep our key players fit, find form and confidence, and Bielsa is bold enough to insert some of the young uns like Shack, Bate, Struijk and Gelhardt then I think we're capable of finishing where we did last season.
