This didn't go down well with the congregation apparently but he was just stating his opinion.
As a nation, us Brits have become less religious over the last few decades.
Many moons ago, parents used to ensure their children went to Sunday school & church services. My brother & I did so until we were 15yo. My parents continued going to church until they passed on. Even though I believe in god, I only attend church at weddings/funerals or sometimes at Christmastime nowadays. Many of my friends are atheists, their right of course, this non-religious stance has grown over the years, unlike Muslims whose religious beliefs are as strong as the day they were born.
Many Muslims are opposed to birth control, so naturally their families are going to increase more so than a traditional British family, whether they are Methodists/Salvationists/C&E or non-believers.
