Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 19th January) - Leeds have £15m bid rejected for USA international Brenden Aaronso

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 19th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Leeds have £15m bid rejected for USA international Brenden Aaronson

As Adam Forshaw’s hamstring tightened after 20 minutes of Sunday’s victory against West Ham at the London Stadium you could sense the worry amongst the Leeds fans. Not another injury! If it wasn’t clear to Victory Orta that we need to strengthen in midfield this transfer window before the Leeds Number 4 hobbled off the pitch it certainly is now. But Orta has been busy according to The Mirror’s David Anderson with bids tabled for two players. One is as yet unidentified but we do know who the first is, USA international Brenden Aaronson.

The Athletic are reporting Leeds have tabled a £15 million bid for the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, known as the “Medford Messi”. Salzburg have turned down the initial offer, but the Whites remain keen on Aaronson and believe they can prise him away from the Austrian Bundesliga champions. Even if they don’t have a great record of dealing with Red Bull clubs in recent seasons!

The 21-year-old has played all but two of Salzburg’s Austrian Bundesliga games this season and all but 5 minutes of their six UEFA Champions League games. Matthias Jaissle’s side are known for their high intensity and pressing which would hold Aaronson in good stead should be make the move to Bielsa’s Leeds. Aaronsonis an intelligent footballer, who moves into space and searches for openings with his passing. He likes to take the odd shot from outside the box too! For an in depth analysis of his style of play check out All Stats Aren’t We scouting report.

Do you think Aaronson is the type of player we need this January? If you were Red Bull would you deal with Leeds United given the Jean-Kévin Augustin debacle?

Dallas - Leeds United's unsung hero

Since making the move from Brentford six and a half years ago, Stuart Dallas has accumulated 235 appearances, and has netted 25 times for the Whites. When it comes to relying on a player, the Northern Ireland International is pretty high up on the list. During his time at Elland Road, he has successfully filled in at no less than six different positions on the pitch. He makes a difference off the pitch too; he mentors some of the developmental players. A recent comparison between Stuart Dallas and England midfielder Declan Rice shows just how important Dallas's contributions are for Leeds, and why the 30 year old may be Leeds most underrated player.

Koch's form not going unnoticed

Robin Koch's return to first team action has caught the eye of Germany Manager Hansi Flick. The 25yo picked up a pelvic injury during their opening game of the season at Old Trafford, which, after surgery kept the former Freiburg defender sidelined until Christmas. Although still unfit, Bielsa had no option but to throw the German International in at the deep end against Arsenal a week before Christmas, but since then Koch's performances have continued to impress. According to German outlet Sport1...

He [Hansi Flick - German national team boss] has contacted him [Koch] more often by phone in recent months to inquire about the well-being of the Leeds professional. At the DFB [German national team], they appreciate Koch's variability and reliability on the pitch, but also his personality.

The report suggests Koch is being eyed as a possible defensive midfield option. With the emergence of players like Struijk, Cresswell and Hjelde, where does this leave Cooper, Llorente and Koch?

Aaronso sounds like a good fit for a Bielsa side and with the way Salzburg play you would hope he would be at the required level of fitness to slot straight into a Bielsa side.

so this must have been 1 of the targets and it takes 18 days to put a bid in for and of course it gets rejected, lets hope no2 target wont happen on the last day.

What is the point of articles like this?

Is the writer desperately trying to 'prove' (note the use of quotation marks) that they are the only one who appreciates the value the Dallas brings to Leeds

Because I can guarantee you that Dallas is not underrated or usung by Leeds United FC, the Leeds fans or the media/pundits.

Stuart Dallas is our modern day Paul Madeley. That's the highest accolade I can pay him.
For the first couple of seasons he didn't pull up any trees but under Bielsa he has been magnificent and deservedly got POTY last season.
Heavily involved in the winner on Sunday, winning the ball on the half way line and carried on into the box as Jack completed his hat trick- typical Stuey.
And who could forget his two goals at the Etihad? It still makes me laugh when I think about co-commentator Tony Dorigo's scream when we got the winner.

We are so blessed with CB's now it's hard to determine who are best two are right now (Coooer aside).
With Llorente back I think Koch will find himself in the DM position for now with Struijk partnering Llorente.
Not so concerned about Firpo missing either now that Hjelde has proved himself.

Why report on a signing until we get one, IF we get one, I'm not expecting us to sign anyone, it's all smoke & mirrors, same old same old blah blah bollocks, IF , we had anyone in mind we'd have had them in by now, we knew we were struggling and got no-one.

Dallas is our rolls royce (PM) enough said.

Koch is a class number when not injured, as is Llorente, be our luck RK will play for Germany and get injured again.

Beat newcastle saturday and it will be a lot healthier, bloody hell, players might be interested in signing for us.

I've been raving about Dallas since he single-handedly tried to undo the mess we made in the play-offs 2nd leg v Derby. Stuart is the Paul Madeley of Bielsa's Leeds.

I encountered Stuart at Woodall Services, from the few words exchanged I knew he was a decent man, he epitomises what the current Leeds squad are all about

Koch has certainly shown his class since his return from his long term injury.

Seems to have toughen up a bit!

I have heard that you are a man of very few words when you have these 'encounters.' We all know what a 69 is but Stuart now knows what a 64 is. Dare I ask was this 'encounter' prior to Stuart's injuries?

Sky transfer team saying what a great player this Brendon is and that he will be joining Leeds (let's hope they're right) because the chap who was talking Leeds said he sent a text to a well known scout for info about this player and he replied with a flame emoji. Apparently the last time he received a flame emoji from said scout was when Rodhri signed for Man City...

He is a little as he's often grouped with those players that have the tag "only Championship players" we get so often here. Personally I think Dallas is as good as any player in the division and not just him but his equals in Ayling, Harrison and Bamford ...

Yer cheeky git :)

To be fair, around 8-10,000 people read the Breakfast Debate each week, and there are a lot of fans who are not as up to date with Leeds Utd affairs, plus Dallas has received quite a bit of criticism this season!

"Unsung" and "reigning player of the year" somehow don't seem to go together.

We all know just how valuable Dallas is.

Aaronson would be an excellent signing. Fifteen million would seem to be a bit of a lowball offer. Hopefully Salzburg will make a counter offer.

Said it before will say it again: in the space of a year DFM has gone from being our weakest position to being our strongest/deepest. Our captain is, at best, our fourth-best option there now.

Hope other teams scouts weren't watching as well Chilli, I would hate the deal to get hijacked

How are you and your family feeling by the way?
