Re: Bielsa OUT
There is serious uncertainty over the future of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United with Jesse Marsch a leading candidate to replace him as head coach of the Premier League club, The Athletic understands.
Leeds suffered a 4-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on Saturday, after they were beaten 6-0 at Anfield by Liverpool on Wednesday.
Sources say that Bielsa’s position at Leeds has been under heightened consideration since that heavy loss at Liverpool, and Leeds were again a distant second best on Saturday.
Marsch is thought to have been among the candidates to replace Bielsa if a change was to be made in the summer, but those plans could now be escalated.
It remains possible that Bielsa, 66, could yet to decide to walk away from the club of his own volition. His departure will be complicated for Leeds to manage, given that he has a complex contract and pays his own backroom staff, meaning the club must yet work out how to pay them off.
The club would also have to move quickly to replace his backroom team, especially considering the club’s increasingly precarious position in the Premier League.
The Athletic understands that the former RB Leipzig head coach Marsch is seen as the leading candidate to replace Bielsa.
Marsch, a former United States international, previously managed MLS sides Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls. He moved to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 and led the Austrian club to a league and cup double in two consecutive seasons.
He was then appointed by RB Leipzig to replace Julian Nagelsmann last summer — but was sacked after just four months in charge having won just five games out of 14 this season.
He remains highly rated within the game, however, and Leeds hope he will lead them up the Premier League table and away from trouble. Leeds currently sit 15th in the table.
Bielsa replaced Paul Heckingbottom as Leeds head coach in June 2018 and led the club back into the Premier League after 16 years away in his second season at Elland Road.
Leeds impressed in the Premier League last season, finishing ninth. But they have won just five league matches this time around, picking up one point from their past six matches.

Marsch OUT
Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.
Marcelo Bielsa. The light that will never go out.

Re: Bielsa OUT
If he is sacked and I have serious doubts over whether anyone else could get enough out of this very weak squad to save us then it has to be done soon and the new boss in by Monday.
This needs to be fast if at all.

Re: Bielsa OUT
If Mr Burns goes and we get Marsch in maybe he will not be so stubborn to insist with man marking and going more zonal. Plus the new manager bounce is a thing, this could be a big psychological boost the players need, out with the stale running non stop etc.
Given Bielsa's overly strict fitness requirements maybe this might mean we see KP/Cooper/Bamford back sooner.
I still think though this has been done too late and Bielsa should have gone sooner. All we can do now is hope.

I think we do need a change but Marsch is a huge risk.CarelessAir wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 2:56 pm If Mr Burns goes and we get Marsch in maybe he will not be so stubborn to insist with man marking and going more zonal. Won trophies at the Austrian equivalent of PSG and was sacked from Leipzig very quickly.
Not very experienced and with 0 track record at a big club.
I'd much prefer Valverde

Re: Bielsa OUT
It will be a sad day if he does get the sack but he's brought it all on himself I'm afraid.
He could be forgiven if he had tried something different,
but to keep doing the same thing over and over expecting better results is madness.
His legacy as a great coach is already tarnished in my book, as in life you have to learn to adapt and change when things aren't working out.
Thank you Marcelo for giving us 4 years of breathtaking football but enough is enough.
We still have 12 games left for someone else to get us the points we need to stay in the PL.

Valverde would be my choice too BTW.
My only concern would be he hasn't managed a club since Barca sacked him in 2020. Why?

I love Marcello and I think he will offer to go as long as the financials are covered for his team.
But leave now and we have no coaches

Re: Bielsa OUT
I called him fatboy, am I incorrect ???
I'd honestly have steve bruce till end of season, at least with the squad available he would know what tactics to use, also use his vast experience to keep us up, at the end of the day, that's what matters most, steady the sinking ship.
A manager, any manager to just keep us up will do, then start again, more than likely the other 3 stooges will have someone ready to step in, someone who when a sub is made , only 1 position is altered max, not the whole backline, embarrassing.

Re: Bielsa OUT
I personally would rather Nuno, just to shithouse a few 1-0s and keep us up. Then plan something else for the summer.
