Seems a little bit like the Bielsa view about not changing from Plan A to Plan B but doing Plan A better. Get closer, do the pressing faster etc. How many times have we seen Leeds do the same thing and come back into games or threaten to come back into games by not actually changing but keeping going the same way - even against Spurs we could have got right back into the game, just like we did v Man U. You also have the likelihood that Liverpool, in that match, probably thought they'd won the match and their levels dropped a bit in the second half - after all 3-0 up playing against an Austrian team is hardly going to set alarm bells ringing and make you think 'I must bust a gut this half.'John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:26 pm Salzburg came back to tie the game before losing on a Salah goal 4-3.
There's a video of Marsch's halftime talk that day making the rounds:

Best comment: "He's already got the 'get into em' part, but to be proper Leeds he needs to add 'f*ck em up'."

Re: Jesse Marsch- RUMOUR - Confirmed
Equally though playing the way we did shows we can outscore the opposition as long as we convert our chances at a reasonable rate. We have lost v the likes of Liverpool, Man U and Spurs but they are generally a lot more clinical in their finishing. In 2 of those games we created more chances than the opposition. When we play the lesser teams normally their conversion rate is going to be similar to ours so if we create more chances we should win (the Bielsa line about if players were robots rings true here as if you take human frailities out of football then the team creating more chances should win most games).
Obviously it would be better to be able to carrying on creating like we did and also be tighter defensively. Whether that can be achieved without spending the money on players like Man City do is debateable but in theory at least it should be good enough to see us clear of relegation even if we don't win the league.

Preparing yourself huh for the incoming onslaught. He's been handed a team out of the relegation zone that's just played 4 of the toughest games there is to play, and got some of the easiest ones to come, let's see huh and then cast judgement.mentalcase wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:03 pm A little bit harsh considering the fella hasn't been in charge of a game yet, besides, IF , we do go down, the damage is already done.

We do create lots of chances but that's because we just flew forward with reckless abandon and consequently conceded tons to.
Our lack of quality will always see us miss chances, even did in the Championship.
Needs to be a happy medium for me.
We need to recognise what we have.
We don't have the quality to outscore the opposition, we aren't Keegan's entertainers, we don't have Peter Beardsley, Lea Ferdinand, Faustino Asprilla, David Ginola or even Rob Lee who proved himself as a very reliable goalscorer from midfield in his prime.
We haven't anything like that quality, and we don't have the quality his Salzburg team did either.
A happy medium needs to be found, Bielsa refused refused if Marsch does then nothing will change.

The plan was always for him to come in the summer instead. I guess if we went down, he wouldn't want to go the Championship. So this way, if we do go down, he will be in place next season.

The key though is in being able to beat enough teams to stay up. My point being that we aren't playing against the Newcastle side you mentioned but against teams that similar to us don't convert a high percentage of chances. As such if a team converts at the same level as us then us creating more chances should usually see us win.Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:49 pm Nothing about this season suggests we will outscore anyone though.

We had the runs in the championship where we couldn't score for a few matches then would bang them in. Same players for both sequences but even someone who only say scores with 1 in 20 chances can score twice in the same match given that they may have missed the previous 38 chances (see Tyler Roberts v Hull as an example). So if the law of averages rights itself out then we should start scoring a few more and concede a few less even if we change nothing.
We have seen from day 1 of Bielsa's reign how important KP was. The win % even in the championship was abysmal without him and that has carried on into the premiership. Whilst holes still appear when KP plays he was usually better positioned. I don't think we have had KP out for anywhere near as long previously and as such the bad runs haven't been extended as long as the current one.

Good interview from JM during his time at Salzburg. Definitely comes accross well. I have warmed to him as a person I just hope he does well in the job.

Good article that weasel.weasel wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 11:29 am I would think everyone will get behind him, regardless of their doubts. I think there would be doubts about any new coach coming in unless they have won the premier league a few times etc - but even then someone that has done that, Jose Mourinho, has struggled mightily of late.
Tha main thing for me is that Marsch looks like he plays a similar way to Bielsa. For me that was the big disappointment when we got Heckingbottom to replace Christiansen. We went from a coach trying to play a good style of football to the dinosaur type of football, all effort, get stuck in type of football which has sever limitations and wasn't the type of football to enable us to punch above our weight. Marsch has by the looks of it got a group of players that should be able to play the way he wants to play. He has a club from top to bottom playing in a way that should be able to adapt to his way of playing the game.
I saw in Bielsa someone that could have us punching above our weight, raising the quality of the team every season by improving current players, buying players that he personally wanted that could do better than the player he was replacing and having good quality young players coming through. Hopefully Marsch can do the same.
A decent video in this article

Like you say not too dissimilar to Bielsaball but without the man to man and using a larger squad which he can rotate slightly.
Talks a good game and am looking forward to see how we perform against Leicester

Lets stop the silly man to man marking leaving huge gaps in dangerous areas, that would be a start in the reet direction.

Unfortunately it's the way the game is going ......or gone .As Sarahm said football has lost its soul , but you can't do anything about it .......how many top sides are locally or even British owned now ? I can't think of any . I am not keen on modern America I guess but look at Russia , far far worse and they have their grubby hands on Englands nastiest club (imo) .You have Arab owners , American , Russian , Chinese .......Leeds may be unusual in even being owned by Europeans right now . It's how the game is going and we won't change it .......I think it only gets worse from here on . Let's see how things pan out from here .........I do think Radz and Orta have gone as far as they can .They have been found wanting this season .....badly , they let Bielsa down as much as he has let fans down , if not moreKennyb41 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:01 pm Ffs the more this sinks in the more i'm starting to hate the club i've loved since the age of 5.
My Yorkshire Leeds is becoming Americanised, it's always been my biggest dread since they started dabbling in English soccer ( i absolutely loved it when those Glazier tw@ts took over scum to use as their cash cow)
And now we're going down that route, something is being ripped from me that i'm finding v hard to swallow, and i think i'm going to find it very hard indeed to follow Leeds until they're gone, i absolutely fcking hate the modern America and all it stands for.

Re: Jesse Marsch Fact
Jesse Marsch's stats as coach at his last club shows a 38% win rate. Call that 3 wins and a draw from 12 remaining LUFC fixtures.
It's not an impossible task with Phillips protecting the back line, but I suspect Leeds may have to travel to Brentford on the last day of the season to face that man wearing his magic hat before they are assured of another season in the top flight of English football.
For Leeds' sake let's pray he is injured for that one.

Oh jeez yes, i'd love to see him back in the prem where he belongs and to stick it right up all the Leeds fans that were asking for him to be given the boot, i really don't think he will though, it broke his heart here coz this was his baby and he had big plans for us, he wanted to stick it right up the managers that spend gazillions, and he's not a money money money man, he loved the Dales, the people and this project was his swansong, we'll never see his likes again.

Stefan Effenberg on Jesse Marsch.
The balance wasn’t right; we played forward come hell or high water without taking into account the strengths of our own personnel, the score, or the opponent’s style of play,” he told Sport Buzzer.
“Chasing the ball is a good tool, but not the only one a top team needs in a wide variety of demands and situations.
The more I read about him the more he sounds like a less successful Bielsa.
Can't organise a defence, plays only 1 style, doesn't adapt to the opposition, all that Effenberg said.
He just seems like he has no idea how to adapt and only thinks of his team and doesn't take the opposition into consideration which was something Bielsa did to much for me.
His entire ethos seems to just rely on running.
Doesn't sound good.

It will be interesting if nothing else.
If this forum has taught me nothing else is that people can see things very differently when giving their opinion on a coach. Not knocking Steffan Effenberg but he may simply be the german pundit equivalent of Gabby Agbonghalor (albeit SE had a far better playing career).
