Just noticed you’re in Cardiff Cat. Did the half marathon there a few weeks back. Nice running round the Bay Area. Took my mind off the pain, briefly

Yes, I think it attracts quite a few competitors these days, Foxy. I know a few people who ran it and the wife went to cheer on a couple of people, who were running from her work, stationing herself at the top end of Roath Park Lake, that would have been the lake with a lighthouse (Captain Scott) memorial in the middle if you noticed.

There does seem to be a run of some kind or another every other weekend - be it a charity/fun run with slightly rotund ladies in pink t-shirts to the serious competitor stuff. Yesterday was the Cardiff 5k.

The Bay Area is very nice these days. When I first moved down here in the early 90’s it was a bit of a dump, but they’ve spent millions and millions since then clearing the old housing and remnants of heavy industry.It’s easy to forget that at the turn of the 19th century Cardiff was the biggest coal exporting port in the world.

One of the biggest half marathons in the country. Yes I do remember Roath Park lake and I was really struggling at that point. Running around the lake seemed to make it worse. Amazing crowds though, brass bands, choirs and the old people lined up in wheelchairs outside the OAP home. Bless them.
Know Cardiff well as I was brought up in South Wales, a short cycle from Llanwern steelworks. Remember the picketing from Scargills era. Never been to the Millennium stadium (top left is it?) but went to the old Arms Park dozens of times.

We seem to have a particularly feisty Magpie in our locality and this afternoon it was the cat belonging to one of the neighbours at the back of us who bore the brunt of his somewhat aggressive tendencies
