The greatest live band you’ve seen and the one you wish you had

Post by Jaydog »

For me Queen in their pomp after Live Aid. At the old Wembley Stadium. Status Quo almost stole the show. Yes you read that correctly.
I wish I’d seen the genius Bowie. And Peter Gabriel

Hard to pick best live, maybe Depeche Mode or Underworld.

I'd like to have seen Jean Michel Jarre in the late 80s when he was playing to 1 and 2 million and using cities like Houston as backdrops.

Slade and Thin Lizzy are the top 2 for milking the crowd and getting you rocking, I’ve seen a lot of bands and those 2 stand out by far.
I would have liked to have seen the Bonzo dog doo dah band, I waited for years to see Andre Rieu and finally went a few weeks ago in Liverpool.

Love the Andre Rieu left field entry. My dad was obsessed with him

The Who, with Richard Thompson a close second. Nobody else comes close.

Never got to see the Kinks. Killing me to this day.

I saw Bowie at Wembley in 1987 on his Glass Spider Tour....i wasnt a fan and was there as a steward working the wheelchair platforms in front of the Royal Box....had a great view. Became a fan after as he put on a great show.
He was backed by Big Country....which is a part of the day i remember the most..because as stewards we got to see them jamming prior to all the punters turning up..it was like our own personal concert, lol.
I also saw U2 and Madonna that year..and in 88 i saw the EFL 100yrs game against a World team with Maradona.
Great times....was supposed to get £5 a time....but never saw any money 🤪

Three concerts i remember the most were:
Marillion at Hammersmith in 84....which i went to support a mate....and ended up becoming a big fan.
Genesis at Twickenham 2007
Robbie Williams Milton Keynes Bowl 2006....which was memorable as i didnt know it was an outside venue..and was fkin freezing. 😩

I regret never seeing ELO or Pink Floyd in their pomp. 👍

Metallica, Sabbath, The Cure, Alice in Chains are the first that spring to mind.

Would have loved to have seen Zeppelin in their pomp and Soundgarden

I saw Nirvana live and loved that period in time. Cobain certainly had a presence on stage, but also a humble soul.

Would love to have seen the master Jimi Hendrix. I'd also have to add Robert Johnson as well!

Was supposed to see Sabbath at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. I was absolutely beside myself with excitement for that. It was snowing heavily the day before and my dad said have you seen the news. It had collapsed because it had a flat roof apparently. Hard to believe but I’m sure that’s correct. Never saw them for one reason or another.

Never saw two of my favourite artists Bowie or the Stones live. :(

Saw Peter Gabriel's Genesis at Leeds Uni in the early 70's, a very raw ELO & Queen at that time

One of the best theatrical live bands were The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

I'll always remember guitarist Zal Cleminson in his colourful outfits scampering around the stage like a lunatic

King Crimson easily the best live.

Wish I'd seen Neil Young, AC/DC with Bon Scott, and Genesis with Peter Gabriel.

Wow. 70 times!
When they supported Queen at Wembley Stadium they were something else. They got the whole place rocking and no one wanted it to end. What a warm up for Queen. Easily as good, but different obviously.
Now this is all bringing back memories. Billy Idol in San Francisco when visiting my sister. I went in with jeans and a t shirt on and when I came out I had no shirt and my jeans were virtually off. Christ knows how that happened but it was effing brilliant.

AC/DC during the Back In Black tour and Rory Gallagher because he was the first big gig I went to in 1977.

Turned down a ticket for AC/DC with Bon Scot and said I would go on the next tour. He died a year later🥹

Also wish I could have seen Free with Paul Kossof but was a little too young when they were gigging

The Smashing pumpkins in 1996. An incredible live act.

Had tickets to see Nirvana in 1994, but the tour was cancelled after Kurt Cobain overdosed in Rome, then a few weeks later he committed suicide.
