Two reasons why he's not liked: He's American and he's not Bielsa.

Anyone coming in after Bielsa was going to find it difficult - if not impossible - to earn the love of the fans. Replacing a legend is incredibly difficult under even the best of circumstances, and these were far from the best of circumstances.

The fact that he's an American works against him, too, as many fans are wary of an American takeover of the club, especially with the 49ers exerting more and more of an influence. Add to that the fact that no American manager has ever succeeded on this level and it's easy to see why so many fans aren't willing to give him a chance.

Were I sitting on that side of the pond I might well feel the same way and I'm willing to admit I might be biased in Jesse's favor because we're both Americans. But being as objective as I can be, I have to say he's done an excellent job of taking a team that was in near disarray and leading them to survival. It seemed likely Marsch was going to be our manager at the start of next season anyway, so now we're heading into the summer in pretty much the place we all expected to be.

This summer and next season will be the test for both Marsch and management. Based on the message Radz sent to the fans today, they're all aware of how much work is to be done if they are to earn/retain the trust of the fans. I, for one, am optimistic.

Simply put..he kwpt us up.
The american thing is due to past failuresbut everyone loves an underdog, right?
Im surprised he got 3yr contract. To me, he has to be backed by orta, or youve to wonder why he brought him in. It was a gamble and now orta has to back him and show hos conviction or go.

Absolutely delighted for JM. Been up against it from day one from many angles both on and off the field but you could see how much it meant to him. For me he has done all I could've wished for and thoroughly deserves the chance now to take us forward. It's imperative we have a manager who sees the value in our young players and I expect they will feature much more next year. Still plenty of people are unconvinced as am I but I never expected any manager to walk into this job and convince me they were the answer in such a short space of time especially walking into a relegation dogfight with a team in disarray, demoralised and seemingly on their last legs.

He's done this against all the odds make no mistake about, it's a wonderful short-term achievement for him personally and massive for the club as a whole, massive. I wish him the best of luck in building his own team, he will need plenty of luck in this the best league in the world but I've seen nothing to suggest we won't lack belief and fight to get us where he wants us to be. The board of course have a massive part to play in that happening too and they MUST do their bit to help achieve it.

Great post Wilsden

Jesse deserves much praise for his excellent work.

I did say we'd end up on 38 or 39 points, though I never felt Everton or Burnley would get anywhere near that mark in a month of Sunday's

Was a couple of other managers who came in mid season with much deeper cv’s than Marsch and they struggled initially. Howe & Conte. Really slow starts and I’m sure their fans were doubtful. Just hope there’s a real identity to his play/style next season.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

Exactly John. I find it embarassing to mention it, but the fact that Jesse is American has a lot to do with it.

I think there is a political undercurrent at work here too. Bielsa was regarded by some as more than just a football manager - he was a ' man of the people ' living above a sweet shop, walking to the training ground and shopping at Morrisons. The fact that he was earning a very un-proletariat like several millions a year from the club and was one of the best paid managers in the PL is neither here nor there. He was a man of the people, like you and me. One person on here has an avatar of him dressed up like Che Guevara on their profile.

I know some people who I used to be friends with. Their FB home page is full of anti-American propaganda, as they are Corbyn fanatics, and believe that all the ills in the world are due to the American administration and its ' deep state' led by the Pentagon. They thought that covid was some sort of conspiracy by the West to impose an evil New World Order. if you point out that that the West has now lifted all its covid restrictions whilst communist China is in a draconian lockdown situation, then that's information that's been made up by the ' mainstream media ' who are owned by capitalists. Nobody with any sense reads or listens to ' mainstream media. '

They also believe that 9/11 was carried out by the American deep state in a covert operation. They now believe that Putin's Russia has been victimised by NATO and the West in general, and that they are fully justified to wipe out the ' Ukrainian Nazis. '

In this kind of world view there's no doubt that the USA is regarded as the bastion of capitalism, which is the root cause of all the problems in the world. If you can bear to listen to what Corbyn has to say, he has a pathalogical hatred of the USA and the West generally.

Spot on. As I said at the time, we were lucky to get him in the position we were in. If he was German, the same media mocking him would be hyperventilating over him.

Feel a lot more excited about next season, than I did this season!

Those Bielsa fans should be thanking him and not hating him. He's saved his legacy at the club.

The real test starts now.

The football (what football) has shown me nothing up to now apart from he'll go with youth, and he'll try to play a bit, but fck knows what that 'play' is for the time being.

He comes across cheesy as fck in front of the cameras and painfully comes across all PC and you feel it's just him trying to say all the right things, perhaps that's as a result of the Ted Lasso thing who knows ?

As far as i'm concerned he'll get credit where credit's due and both barrels when shyte.

Honestly ? I think he'll be getting both barrels a helluva lot.

Jesse comes across as a good motivator to me, the players love him too. Marsch is passionate & at least he puts his arms around his players whether we win, draw or lose. He has got all the attributes of how a good manger should be in any walk of life. My staff were never miserable because I looked after & treated them with respect like human beings.

No, not at all really, we've stayed up so job done for now.

I have absolutely no doubt Bert would've kept us up and he was not panicking at all about it if he got his main players back.

Who would i still prefer to be in charge ? Bert 100%.

If we'd gone down i'd be fcking fuming, but we've managed to stay up (there were 3 worse than us)

Do you honestly feel confident in the new man BG ? I don't, but it's been too hard to really judge him because of the situation, we've won games we should win unconvincingly, we didn't show up at all against the 'good' sides and we've drawn against shyte whilst playing shyte ourselves, we've scraped home by the skin of our teeth at the death, the one good thing i've seen is although the boyz are playing shyte their heads didn't drop so he gets credit for that.

As for the football side of things i've seen jack and i'm worried for next year, he's now got a full start and a clean slate and the relegation scrap is behind us, so ?.......What could go wrong huh ?

The best we've looked are the Leicester game and Brentford, the two in which we stayed the closest to our previous system, playing with width. The more Marsch has tried to impose his narrow 4222, the worse we have looked, as it nullifies our best players in Phillips and Raphinha.

To come in with twelve games to go and tinker with the system as he has has just created confusion in the players, who've never looked like they knew what they were supposed to be doing.

We've stayed up by the skin of our teeth despite Marsch, not because of him. Anyone thinking his motivational schtick is a substitute for proper coaching and tactical nous is going to be disappointed.

The idea that he is disliked for being American, or for 'political' reasons, is absolute drivel. He talks too much, and most of what he says doesn't correspond to what's happening on the pitch. He'd do better to tone down the self-promotion, and start looking like he knows how to set up a team and get the best out of his players.
Because we were in a relegation battle and needed points! Jeez, why is that so hard for some fans to grasp?

Obviously you'd have preferred going down with a whimper losing 6-0 every week and playing "pretty" football.

Some people seem to think that you avoid the drop through trying to play like the 1970 Brázil side....

Jesse's 1.25 average points a game counteracts your reasons, which over the season would have given us a total of 48 points & comfortable 12th position in the PL table without suffering all the anxiety of a possible relegation.

At least our players love him.

I respectfully disagree; go back and read the multitude of comments decrying the American takeover of the club.

Drivel, indeed.

Marsch is not a self-promoter. Or did you not read the comment where he said he doesn't care if the fans boo him or sing his name; it's all about the team? When does he ever give himself credit for what the players have done?

During the month of February we played five games and conceded 20 goals, taking only one point from fifteen while being shut out three times. We weren't just losing, we were getting destroyed. For crying out loud, we even managed to make Everton look like Bayern. Something had to change. The team were utterly demoralized.

Jesse came in and righted the ship.

Funny how so many who say Bielsa was a genius for getting so much out of what is largely a Championship side (and I count myself as one of those) are so quick to condemn Marsch because he didn't have us immediately playing like Liverpool or City.

Jesse's done a fine job. He's kept us up. He has the players believing in themselves again. He's brought along a number of young players under the most difficult of circumstances.

He's also the manager of our beloved Leeds United. Can we give him our support?

I refuse to get in anymore worthless debates about boring boring bielsa, he did his best, then his worst in consecutive seasons, thanks for getting us promoted, although as I've said elsewhere, even Heckinbottom , Warnock or Darko would have received hero status had they been the ones to get us promoted.
JM may not be the long term answer, but, he is currently our manager, so he has my full support.
I can't help thinking, some of our fans were disappointed we stayed up, shame on them.
