I keep repeating myself on the above matters
And why not 64..its a valid request..and one im sure was muted by the senior management a few months back.
They also said financially it work out better if he has a good WC.
So im with you....he goes nowhere until Jan....it will give any newbies a chance to bed in.. alongside a proven asset.

January makes good sense all round, unless he gets a career ending injury along the way.

Come January we could be either, in trouble and need him for rest of season - be relatively safe and his value could've increased significantly after WC and sell him then say if we were playing well and mid table or above, we get the best of both worlds.

Llorente had a great season apart from being the CB with the most appearances in a side which conceded 79 goals in 38 games....

There is a reason why Llorente only made 2 appearances for Real Madrid's first team in 4 years...His 92 other appearances were with the B and C teams. He was eventually sent out on loan by Real Madrid having made just those two appearances in the 1st team - that says it all.

The concerns with waiting to sell Raphinha is that if he plays like he did in the 2nd half of the season he might miss out on the Brazil squad or not be selected or selected and plays sh*te.

Even if he plays well there would be no guarantees that clubs would want to come in for him mid-season, plus if we are struggling would we really want to sell mid-season? As such that could lead to us having him next summer with just 1 year left on his contract. That likely pushes his price down more than a good world cup could push it up. There is also the relegation clause still in play and there is no guarantee we won't get relegated last season.

Then there is also the risk of an injury. An injury that kept him out for the season would seriously weaken our hand. He'd have the year left on his contract and other clubs not knowing if he is back to his best or able to get back to his best.

As such it is more of a gamble to not sell him this summer - selling him now also likely gives us extra funds to strengthen the squad, and it is likely a lot easier doing that in the summer than in January.

Raphinha showing the world all his silky skill vs Japan today.

He won't miss out on their World Cup campaign.

The trouble with that example though is that Madrid can buy the best 2 centrebacks in the world. As such if you are say 5th choice centreback for Real Madrid you could still be in the top 10 centrebacks in the world - that isn't me saying that Llorente is in the top 10 in the world but he is a decent centreback. The main thing for us is to get a settled side, hopefully less injury disruption this season, and that gives a better chance to evaluate all players in the team fairly.

The fact Llorente is 3rd/4th choice for the Spanish national team also suggests he is a decent player unless you are similarly stating that he is sh*te for not being first or second choice.

On the other hand what if we sign a couple more starters this summer. And then Big Jesse gets them playing winning football and we are pushing for a top 6 finish? Then rather than sell Raphinha we sign him to a new five year contract extension next summer? But that's just crazy talk right? 8-)

I still don't see the benefit in selling the best player I've seen at ER in decades when there are supposedly top players in front of Rapha who totally under-performed last season we should be looking to unload

Raphinha will be in the prime of his career as a 27yo in the summer of 2023, should we show proper ambition & sign better quality players around him, we could have an excellent season & the scenario of his future at Leeds maybe entirely different from then on.

Time for the billionaire owner on our board to dip into his pockets rather than sell our best assets, pigs will fly on that score after their tight-fisted attitude nearly took us down this season.

I'm a gambling man, i'd like to take the gamble myself, you never know - if we start the season tearing up trees and in top 6 he might want to end his career at Elland Rd, then how much huh ?

Totally agree, we need Raphinha more than he needs LUFC

The world is his oyster, but one thing we have come to realise, Raphinha loves Leeds

Imagine selling Raphinha & still being lumbered with Rodrigo next season?

Raph is still a United player, we don't need to sell, barcelona are hard up and were wishing relegation on us just to afford him on the cheap, we should hold out as long as possible, all this talk of letting him go now incase he gets injured, has a bad spell etc is nonsense, he's a special player that will still hold a very high fee even in 18 months time, if we are desperate to rid ourselves of his services , or he himself puts a transfer request in, we can still play hardball and demand a certain amount, when he has a great world cup, and theres absolutely no reason why he wont, his stock will rise and we will gain.

It would be great if that was to happen although it is more likely we will be in the bottom half and closer to a relegation battler than pushing for the top 6.

The only way I'd take the risk on keeping Raphinha past this summer is either we only got derisory offers or he signed a new contract (and one without a relegation release clause or a much higher one than the current one).

He isn't popular with Spain fans at all from looking at twitter.

They don't rate him at all.

And he had the worst aerial success rate of any Premier league cb last season.

Think how many cbs that is and how hard it must be to be the worst.

He wasn't particularly rated by his previous clubs fans either who were delighted to get £18mil for him.

I don't think he is without talent but the more I see of him I think we definitely overpaid (as usual) and signed a cb who probably suits a slower and less physical league.

In England he is shown up for his physical weaknesses and slow speed of thought.

Decent technically but is that enough?
Signed

Would love Tarkowski at Leeds.
Ideally to replace Llorente who always seems to get bullied by the more physical strikers and takes too many risks for my liking.

No need to rush regarding Raph. We hold all the aces. Would be happy if he stayed until Jan after hopefully a good WC which could start a bidding war.
We need to be smarter when it comes to selling our prized assets and not continually dropping our pants when a so called big club comes knocking.
