Pretty much. I try to pick stuff that I was into at the time, and that I think deserves its place. My other choice was Bad Brains, so you're getting off relatively lightly!

I don't want to ruin my reputation by having Culture Club associated with it, so I'll go with The Jam - The Gift.

I was mostly listening to 70s bands at that time, but I was into the anarcho-punk scene, dub and reggae. Not much to recommend itself from the AOTY lists.

Yeah, it was all the post punk stuff for me, but I find artists like Simple Minds and U2 as drab as it gets, so a lot of the people I kicked around with had absolutely polar opposites to my musical taste. I really liked The Doors, Hendrix, The Cure and The Bunnymen around this time.

Faaip will like it hardcore punk so I'm guessing Durly will enjoy it too.

My main things were prog and hardcore, and to this day I don't know many people who liked both. I liked the early Simple Minds albums, but hated chart music generally.

I was a year into college life at this time and virtually every other person had a list of albums that they were constantly playing and droning on about:

Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Foreigner - Whatever was their latest
Human League - Dare
Simple Minds, U2, blah, blah, blah , blah

I had a few Irish mates from Belfast and I thought oh great they're bound to like SLF and the Undertones, but they were big into stuff like Cliff Richard ffs
