35/1 was he. Well he was in great form and loved the track so how we weren’t all on I’ll never know :duno:
On Betfair yes, thick fcker me put my usual 2 from the top, 2 from the middle, and 2 outsiders on then saw Fitz and thought ' h'mmm forgot about him and he been doing good recently' but decided to leave him alone as i'd done my bets....DOH !

Glad Chilli enjoyed Pines, hit & hope obviously no knowledge of golf.. Reminded me of one Tiger hit stiff, don't recall the venue. Firestone possibly.

Jaydog wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 6:48 pm Yes Chilli, I was wondering how your trip went. So you recommend a trip to the Pines then?
That was unreal what Fitz did, shaping a bunker shot with a shortish iron to basically win the US Open. Amazing. So difficult to do. What an elite club to be in too. Only 3 people have won a US amateur and a US open. Jack, Fitz & I think Juli Inkster. A nice lad too and you have to love Billy, a real character. His impression of Seve is hilarious
I definitely do recommend Forest Pines Jaydog. My society members said it was the best venue we have been to.
Three superb 9's set amongst huge pine trees as the name suggests and a nice hotel as well.
It also helped that we had nice weather apart from it being windy for the first two days.
As for my golf.....well I was fifth on the leaderboard (out of 36) after the first round but after three rounds I finished in 29th! That says all you need to know about how my second and third rounds went.

Matt Fitzpatrick: US Open champion on 'hit and hope' bunker shot that led to win

Matt Fitzpatrick admitted that "one of the best shots" he has ever hit that led to him winning the US Open in Boston, was actually a "hit and hope".

The Englishman was referring to a 160-yard shot from a fairway bunker to 18 feet on the 18th in the final round.

He two-putted for par to win on six under, one ahead of Will Zalatoris and world number one Scottie Scheffler.

"I guess ability took over and when I saw it leave the sand I couldn't have been happier," said the 27-year-old.

"It's one of the best shots I've hit of all time.

"I hit some unbelievable shots coming down the stretch. I look back to my three approaches into 15, 16, and 17 as all really, really good shots. On 18 it was kind of just a bit of hit and hope.

Was just going off the person that hit it statement, you know like, from the horses mouth.

Kenny, whatever level of golfer you are, when you hit the ball you hope it goes where you want it to....it doesn't always believe me.

As a teenager i played off 24, i never got better than 18 and never will now my back's fcked, on any society do's or stag do's we go on Spain etc and we play Stableford they always give me 22, that should give you an indication, i can ping one as good as that shot of Fitz's, but i can slice and hook like there's no tomorrow and pitching to the green is my worst shot, i hate it when i can't hit the full club and have to take some out, it always fcks my card if i'm having a decent round.

Oh and as a child i was told my hands were the wrong way round holding the club, as a result i can play both Kaccy handed and proper.

My pitching shots are better sometimes Kaccy handed and i can hit a 4 iron 240 yds, but direction is another matter.

Surprised no-one has mentioned that Billy Foster is a massive Leeds fan, pictures all over social media of him revealing his Leeds top under his overalls and giving the salute!!!

240 with a 4 iron is a very decent spank indeed. I use a 4 rescue rather than an iron.
My swing resembles an octopus falling out of a tree.

My swing is as ugly as they come but I sometimes get away with it (only sometimes mind) by remembering golf 3 cardinal rules; keep your eye on the ball, keep your damned eye on the ball and for crying out loud keep your blo*dy eye on the ball!

Haven't played for over 20 years BBGG.

I could usually hit good drives and long irons, but my short game was pretty :poo:

Driving for show and putting for dough, as the old saying goes 8-)

Yeah, deep breath, focus on the shot and keep your eye on the ball.

Used to find that if I hit a few good shots I'd get over-excited and try and melt the next tee shot and top it or send it out of bounds. Immediate karma

It's a funny old game

Yep.
I hit a few good shots and suddenly think I'm Rory McIlroy and try and take the skin off the ball which usually results in me fatting it 20 yards having taken up an enormous beaver pelt.
