Elland Road future capacity
What do people think is the correct capacity for Leeds?
Taking into account if you got relegated etc. No doubt you could get huge crowds if your flying but it's getting the balance right

I honestly think low to mid 40s, realistically. 50+ would be great and ambitious but looking back to when we’d draw high teens/low 20s even in the championship, it is about finding that balance. The attendance will remain high if the clubs ambition also remains high

55k minimum.
Re: Elland Road future capacity
Nowadays and Leeds flying high, we'd fill a 60k, they'd have to be like Citeh and Lpool are atm though playing wise (or Bertball), but could easy get 50k top 4.

Re: Elland Road future capacity
60 thousand without doubt, Leeds was always a rugby city, things have changed since then, United & Leeds RLFC always had great attendances back in t' day, competing with each other, also Hunslet on ER itself back in t'day.
Yea, we've had some pisspoor crowds in t' 80's , much like yourself and every other club, when going to football was a health hazard, and if your'e not in the top division, especially for a long period, the area gets drained of kids of the future .
Look at west ham, spurs, arsenal, got their acts together and moved on upwards, there are women, infact whole family's going together these days in complete safety, and rightly so.
Football moves with the times, LU have stood still for too long, for financial reason also, but we haven't had the forward thinking, nor resources to move forward. corrupt owners haven't helped either.
ER is crying out for improvement, 60,000 would easily be achieved if we stayed in the PL, even if we are in the top group in championship showing some ambition it is achievable, like sunderland, it's only when the club lose focus, show no ambition, the fans also lose faith when out of the top league for so long, speculate to accumulate.
Moan utd needed a disaster to turn them into a national then global force, look at their crowds prior to the outpouring of grief, liverpool have had their pisspoor turnouts, success breeds success.
Today, passionate crowds turn up more in hope, ie, us lesser teams to a degree, knowing we can't compete financially, but we might get a result, the top 6 will be the top 6, 8 out of every 10 seasons due to money alone.

Watching football in a half empty stadium wasn't much fun just a few years ago. Ok maybe not half empty but 21/22K and the upper East Stand permanently closed and given the current state of the world it's difficult to see any serious redevelopement at ER in the next 5 years at least.
The club will continue to make some noise about it but nothing will happen.

Re: Elland Road future capacity
Interesting that 3% of Season Ticket holders didnt renew this season.
I didn't renew membership either.
I wonder if there is a downturn what that could do to any forward planning.
Realistically
50k for me.

A heel of a lot were dissillusioned through lack of investment, also 2nd division football, then on top of all that, we had to have membership to get tickets , the violence on the terraces put a lot off.
Lets hope we learn regards investment and realise the importance of being in the top division.

60000 would be nice , but I guess 50k is realistic .John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 1:13 am 50,000

Re: Elland Road future capacity
60K is doable and if there are a few empty seats it means that all of those that want to can go; what's the point in not letting fans in because there isn't the capacity?
Extra revenue from ticket sales etc.. is a necessity once we have American owners!

We had the opportunity to build a new stadium next to the ground, now we've flogged it all to the council, we could have built a new stadium, then moved straight into it with no issues, then drop the existing ground, bollockst that up now.

Re: Elland Road future capacity
The trend is to move large parts of the economy online along with the currency needed to operate in the virtual digital world and maybe that's why ER will not increase its capacity. If one can't get a ticket to the match then the smart thing to do is to watch it on your smart TV, smart phone, tablet or PC.
At work colleagues were discussing the great uncle Google listening through ones microphone on their PDA. One even said that within hours of talking about a subject it appeared as an advertisement without him even searching beforehand. He said he felt it a bit creepy. Another said he sometimes felt he was being tracked by adverts after walking past department stores. I told him that those with PDA's are tracked as they enter a metropolitan area, whilst travelling on public transport and walking to public stadiums for marketing purposes, along with being watched by CCTV for public safety.
Uncle Google knows when you stay at home to watch the match. The future is Google, an uncle Google tracking and watching you.

Re: Elland Road future capacity
Thanks for people's comments
It's a balancing act to have a capacity that is sufficient for the good times but not too big for the lean periods
When we were doing well under Peter Rei, our ambitious chairman extended the Stadium of Light from 48,000 to 42,000. We'd only built the stadium three years previously We were selling out when we were flying but that didn't last long. If we are a poor Premier League team fighting relegation or worse the capacity is too big . Most fans think we should have stayed at 42,000
