. Those days are over, thank fook. The process has begun of improving the squad with better quality players and saying goodbye to those who should have been discarded a while ago.
Exciting times mate
That sounds pretty ungrateful to players who lifted us out of Tuesday night away at Preston to trips to the big leagues.
But then if you are determined to be unhappy I wont get in your way

If we did nothing and Rapha went we definitely go down next season.
The squad lacked quality to comfortably compete at this level so incomings were a necessity and because we stupidly didn’t reinforce much last season, we have a lot of catching up to do.
JM has a massive job on his hands to integrate the new players into his system. Will it work? That’s the million dollar question.
If we can hover 6-7 points above the bottom 3, I will be happy this year. We have an easier set of fixtures to start with this season so if we can maintain mid-table for a couple of months, I think we will be ok. Realistically, anywhere around 10th to 13th will be good. We are being touted aropund 16th with the bookies: I'd like to think we could do a fair bit better than that. 50 points or over would be nice...

I would be happy with that as long as we still have a few bob to improve next time.

I get your point. And yet people around here would rather have Camara over Adams. Even though Adams is the ONLY player among the current signings that is established in a top 5 league and the Champion's League. But he's the one they don't rate.
I love the input of our American contingent, you know much more, and seen much more than us on this side of t' pond, the football has improved massively in t'states , although to what extent, time will tell.
As I say, It's a concern to have too many in too fast, hopefully it will work out, the manager has faith in them, imho, we needed a shake up, now we have it, with time to gel them and get used to his system, we have no excuses.

We have access to a LOT of football on TV in America. And as a retired guy (Pensioner I think you call us) I have time to watch a lot of football. It probably seems like I'm bringing some bias to my assessment of certain players. It's not my intention. I'm just trying to add information and context to the discussions. My comparison of Adams v Camara is strictly based on the CV of each player. Of course I'm a big fan of Adams as a USA supporter. But I'm also a HUGE Mo Camara fan. So on this particular deal I"m looking at value for money, and which of those two players I think is most ready to help LUFC. And it is just my opinion that it's Adams. I respect everyone's right to disagree.
P.S. The Football/Futbol/Soccer has improved massively. It is a serious business this side of the pond. Our Clubs have invested Billions in infrastructure. Literally building it up from nothing. And we are now truly part of the global game and market. But we are under no illusions about the relative quality. We are miles from the top 5 leagues. And are only now starting to match the level of the Mexican league. Not quite there yet...

Yep they're the same players who almost took us down last season.
Keep up the good work Paul, i enjoy all the input from our Yank friends and supporters.
I'm looking forward to your take on games once they start, if i think we're doing ok i'll say it and vice versa, i hope you're honest with your match analysis and player performances, formation etc, we don't all have to agree it's all good.
We saved ourselves by an all round effort from everyone and everything, Manager, Players, fans, luck and Burnley.
Big Jess is getting his players, i can't judge him on the football in those 12 games, most were shyte and some ok, we got home by the skin of our teeth, but a clean start he has and coz it's a new season and things seem to be moving in the right direction for him i'm now looking forward to it, i just hope to fck we're not an embarrassment.
Upto now i'm liking Jesses attacking intent, i just hope we don't get picked off which is my biggest fear.
But please keep contributing.

I'm happy we are making signings to create depth in our squad as (and I do not think anyone will deny this), lack of depth with all the injuries last season played a massive part in our precarious season. Will they all gel, it is difficult to know, but Marsch does seem to have a good man-management about him and perhaps he can keep a bigger squad of potential starters happier. The 5-sub rule will also greatly help with keeping players happy.
As for Camara versus Adams. I think Adams has a lot of ability, and probably has a lot to prove after being frozen out at Leipzig. My biggest (and perhaps only) concern is his recent injury record has not been great, whereas Camara seems to be bulletproof so far. Ideally I'd love us to sign both as losing Roca to injury (and Forshaw who could easily break down) means we would be relying on Gyabi or Koch/Struijk to fill that DM role without both Camara and Adams. I think Koch is best played at CB (and he was great filling in as an emergency RB in those last two games of the past season). Struijk may be OK in a double pivot but he still has a lot to learn.

50 points would be good & a significant improvement on last season's tally

At least the USA have qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup tournament

The whole 9th followed by a bad season followed by losing our best players reminds me of the post title seasons.
We did far better than expected with players like Sterland, Chapman, Whyte and Batty. A year later we had just avoided relegation, they had gone and we were watching Deane, Pemberton, and White...

We actually get more premier games in the US than they do in the UK. And, many of us "US contingent" grew up in Yorkshire on the terraces, watching some of the best Leeds teams over that past 40 years,
To the original post - think we've done good business. We should have signed a couple more last season. Now we're playing catch up. Half our squad is still championship. It's OK to lose a couple of top players if that means us improving in 4 or 5 positions. Amd I feel we have. We have a better RB. We have a better AMC. A better LW. And at least one better DMC.

It's true. I can watch every single Premier League match live or on demand. And we also get a fair amount of Championship matches which fortunately we won't have to focus on too much.
I figured a lot our US contingent were British Nationals or Ex-Pats living in the States. I'm not one of them. I was born in the United States and have lived here all my live.

And that oversentimentality almost got us relegated. We have to move on eventually.

Being grateful isn't driven by sentiment mate, neither is it saying that I don't welcome change, but telling players to f**k off after they get past their best is absolutely appalling and I will call it out on here or anyone else.

I still think we are weak in defence and that could still be our achilles heel again this season. Another striker to push the others would be good but i can't see it happening. Marsch is certainly building a team in his image.
