Re: The ownership situation
We haven't got the money or status or turnover to get involved in stadium plans costing 10s if not hundreds of millions.Irish Ian wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 4:47 pm I know you like to scratch around looking for thinks to worry about cjay but perhaps we will see the 49ers involvement come to the front when the plan to upgrade Elland Road gains traction.
At the moment Radz has been able to finance Leeds but at that point he will be unable to do so.
As you know the plan is a transition is to take place by 2024 so next year will more transparency as the sale gets closer.
As you also know Jesse met with the 49ers ahead of taking the job and spoke about it to the media. So imo their influence has already been felt. They were at EL the day before Bielsa was fired and it would be hard to believe that they were not part of the conversation that day.
So already we are seeing changes to the hierarchy ahead of 2024.
The debt it would put on the club could cripple us for decades
It sounds good in PR terms but in practical terms we aren't in a financial position for any major stadium stuff imo.
Our owners won fund it and it would be on the club to pay it back.
We simply haven't got the financial resources in terms of money the club makes for that.
Good PR but in practical terms a potential disaster.

Re: The ownership situation
It’s certainly ambitious. 55000 capacity. A bowl shape as opposed to 4 stands. If it’s done in phases what if we are relegated during the rebuild as presumably it takes place over several seasons. Wonder what the budget and contingency is

Re: The ownership situation
We absolutely need a larger stadium. We could easily sell over 50,000 tickets a game; the demand is there.
Do the math: 15,000 extra attendees each game at an average spend twenty-five quid per game equals over seven million in additional revenue every year, and that doesn't include all the money those people would spend in the club shop (I spent over £200 on my trip).
I don't think we can afford NOT to expand the stadium if we expect to stay in the league perennially. The days of being able to compete without significant financial backing are over. If the Forty-Niners are going to provide that backing we have to wither take it or decide we'd rather be a Championship side in order to remain free from foreign investment.
I'll support the team either way.

You have to modernise and keep up. Is ours the oldest stadium in the PL?John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 5:38 pm We absolutely need a larger stadium. We could easily sell over 50,000 tickets a game; the demand is there.

What did you buy for £200. That’s the burning question

That's handy. Only 23 people in Bournemouth and they're all over 90

Re: The ownership situation
I think you answer your own questions to some degree. I think the 49ers group will put minimal investment in on stuff that is speculation (i.e. buying playeres). They don't want to risk money (yes counter productive if it means we go down but they don't throw money into something that is still a risk like paying for players and risking relegation despite spending). They will want to see us more secure and would then be like Liverpool, spending money earnt by the club to try to keep them at the top table (in Liverpool's case to keep them in the champions league). As such when we are consolidated and look like a secure premier league side I can see them spending money on the stadium because they know they will get their money back through increased matchday revenue. An extra 15,000 seats at say £30 per ticket is going to bring in £10m per year so the money can come back quickly (and it may even be that they simply loan the money to the club for it and give themselve a 10% interest rate).Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 5:06 pm We haven't got the money or status or turnover to get involved in stadium plans costing 10s if not hundreds of millions.

Liverpool's owners have got away with it due to how well Klopp has done. A couple of years outside the champions league and they would be sh*tting themselves (just like they were a season back when they were shite with Van Dijk being out injured).

Re: The ownership situation
Any questions about the owners and Radz resources or level of commitment?
He's been an absolute legend to this club. He took a huge gamble on us. And all close to him thought he was nuts. I'll back him whatever he does. We owe him a great deal of gratitude for rescuing our club from the mire

Re: The ownership situation
I think that can get forgotten very quickly. Radz competence and motives get questioned quite a lot on here and while his tenure hasn't been error free there is still an overall plus when we look back at where we were to where we are now.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 7:30 pm Any questions about the owners and Radz resources or level of commitment?

This summer so far we have invested what we have made from the transfer market which is sensible economics but even that gets used to take cheap shots by some unfortunately.

Re: The ownership situation
In the Premier league it is rarely sensible economics for an almost relegated team to only invest what they brought in the following transfer window...this inevitably leads to relegation often which is definitely not economically a good investment return!Irish Ian wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 1:49 am I think that can get forgotten very quickly. Re: The ownership situation
Villa did ok.
And that took me two minutes to research.
Throwing money at players is silly. Throwing money you can't afford is dangerous.
Our board have done well so far.
New players. Cash in hand.
Deeper squad.
Find those two we need and we should be able to compete.
