I'm a big Calexico/Richmond Fontaine/ Be Good Tanyas/ Gillian Welch fan... I just find the Delines really bland.

Willy Vlautin whom composed all the Richmond Fontaine songs obviously doesn't think so, he formed The Delines after Amy Boone had she toured with RF & she also sung on one of their albums. I assume Willy thought having Amy fronting the band would give them more appeal to a wider audience.

I've compared the clarity of Boone's voice to Karen Carpenter in the past, so I understand folk may find them bland

Love those three artists above, also admire some of Calexico works too.

Yeah, mainly, but you usually get quite a diverse set of LPs that are nominated on this thread. Music either appeals to me, or it doesn't, I don't waste time on stuff I don't enjoy.

Maybe it's a self fulfilling prophecy to some extent. I've given up nominating afrobeat, dub, etc etc, for example... I do like my guitar music, but I like lots of other styles too. The only thing I really can't stand is hip hop.

Listening to a lot of the excellent Frazy Ford recently, thanks for that. But yeah, Calexico, Wilco, Silversun Pickups, Big Thief (also had a very good album out this year IIRC) .. Jenny Lewis over Gillian Welch for me. Not an RF fan either right now... my taste does constantly shift though so you never know


Apropos nothing, The Byrds wonderful 8 Miles High has finally been supplanted by Spirit's Poor Richard as my best song from the sixties... That long single note after the solo (that you'll tell me now isn't) with the bass working it way underneath it is sublime
Unfortunately cut short as all the tracks on the album fade into others, which also makes the album great. Played it a lot on the IoW back and forth to Newport, the sun and sea air.. Wonderful. Those first 4 now my favourite first 4 anywhere. (The Family That Plays Together)

Spirit one of the first American bands I got into, mid 70's. A touch after BOC... While the mates were into Yes/Sabbath/Beatles etc.. Kinda lost touch for a while but those first three albums are stunning. Santana a master of feedback
