That's the point. It's so terrible, and so cheesy, it's untrue.becchio bear wrote:Didn't make me cry with laughter - was crap actually![]()

I've made this point before, but I'll make it again.
People seem to spend their lives these days whinging about how crap TV shows like Big Brother and X Factor are. No one is forcing you to switch the telly on. They only put it on because a LOT of people enjoy them, and tune in.
I'm perfectly sure that there are equal amounts of people who spend their lives complaining that there is too much football (or other sport) on the telly.
It isn't the 60s any more, there are more than two channels out there, go watch something else. Or read a book.

Yeah, sorry, made the mistake of thinking you meant you didn't like it when you said it was 'cheesy'. Some people like cheese, other's don't.Telepres wrote: Eh? I watch X Factor as it is entertaining. A lot of the performers on it are terrible though, and I find that entertaining.

ah, you want FAME ACADEMY! Now there WAS a show worth watching.becchio bear wrote: The first few programmes are entertaining but that's about itIf your face don't fit with Simon you don't get anywhere as has been proven with past winners who he just sidelines. When it first started it was innovative and different, but now it is so stage managed it's ridiculous. Auto-tune for goodness sake in a singing competition, what's that all about
Mind you they have Cheryl (can't hold a note to save her life) Cole as a judge so say no more

I'd much prefer to see a programme trying to showcase a new band, playing their own instruments, singing (without auto-tune) writing their own songs etc.. now that would be worth watching

Re: O/T COMPLETELY - X - Factor
Fame Academy was the BBC's version of The X Factor, ran for a couple of series and a couple of celebrity charity series in about 2003. Might have been pre-X Factor. Before they'd decided that it was too similar and went for Strictly Come Dancing instead.becchio bear wrote: Have I missed something?
The participants were openly encouraged to write their own songs and play their own instruments.
IMO it was a much better show.

Re: O/T COMPLETELY - X - Factor
One of my bands got to the final of a "best new band" competition for Dutch telly, years ago. All the early rounds were done live, but the final had to be miming to a pre recorded take of our song.
We refused point blank. I mean - we played this song at least 4 nights a week in pubs and clubs around the country...why would we need to mime?
TV was adamant, as the show was going out "live" on national telly and they were scared of "errors or profanity" on the show.
So we did the playback - the guitarist reversed his guitar and played the back of it...the drummer used french loaves for sticks (crumbs flying everywhere!)...the bass player sellotaped his guitar lead to his ear...and the keyboard player "played" a stylophone, whilst sitting on the Hammond organ he usually played. As the singer, I deliberately looked at the wrong camera on every change and made sure my lip synch was totally wrong. (I won't tell you what I did using the microphone!)
Producer was furious! However, the jury (including a member of Golden Earring and Jan Akkerman from Focus and Ruud Gullitt!) were in hysterics!
It was a viewer phone in vote....we actually won, on the phone votes - but the jury (rightly) gave first prize to the truly wonderful Urban Dance Squad...who went on to influence European rap and rock crossover.
We got crucified in the national press the next day - which helped to score us dozens of concerts, the following year!
