I've been saying since our away game at Blackpool in September 2012 that we have no chance of achieving anything with this fella upfront, 15 months down the line he is proving my statement absolutely bang on !
He's still our top scorer for the season... Blackstock showed he can make an impact from the bench last game, so I'd stick to that for now. If Ross is ineffective again and Dexter changes the game then there's a case for him starting over Ross.

I don't worship McCormack, he does blow hot and cold and more often the latter this season. No one's place in the team should be set in stone imo. If you're not playing well, you should be benched...
1964white wrote:Yes but Zalikus will get games once he is fit where as White has had plenty of opportunities at left back, left wing, right wing & still can't hack it !

I'll stick by another statement of mine I've made in the past, White will find his niche in League One
My point is that Zali's not really attacking enough for the formation we're playing, so will we shuffle again, or blood another youngster at LB?

White strikes me as having a bit of an attitude. After such a promising (and early) start to his career he's never really achieved the level we thought he might. He's been a permanent fixture in the squad, but rarely a starter, despite us not having a solid player at left back until (arguably) this season.

Maybe he just needs a run of games to find form and get the fight back, but I fear you might be right...

Too many cold moments from Ross for me, he has almost become a passenger as McD accommodates & strives to find his best position in the team.

You probably saw one of his better performances at Newcastle Genghers !

I thought McCormack was outstanding in the Birmingham game. Easy MOTM in any other game but only edged out by great games by Austin and Mowatt on the day.

He may not be as consistent as we would like but he's not really been played in a consistent role yet his season. He is a dangerous player in the final third with the right partner. Smith's recent form suggests he may keep that role but, though not the size of Smith, Blackstock's show reels suggest he is no mug in the air.

McCormack is by no means undroppable, but I certainly wouldn't be dropping him.

As far as left back goes, White should be an ideal left wing back but he simply has not developed into the player he should be and hasn't made the position his own. I know he has been messed around a lot by several managers but for several years, until the signing of Warnock in fact, left back has been a serious problem position for us. Would we have been playing White on the right wing if he were a good enough left back? I know Colin was stupid but that stupid? I'm not so sure.

Charlie Taylor would be the obvious choice if we were looking to youth but he's off on loan.

The appearance of Danny Pugh on the bench for the Birmingham match and McDermott's comments about him suggest to me he will start the game on Saturday if Warnock is not fit.

Zaliukas not in the development squad for today's game at Forest. He'll undoubtedly be in the squad for tomorrow then.

So outstanding he missed two one on one's plus a third shot all hit straight at the keeper.I'd have been really disappointed if he had missed the target after the Brum keeper played out a sequence from Calamity Jane for the opening goal
Yes Ross ran the channels well & played his part in a fine team performance v a very poor Brummie team, probably the best we've seen from McCormack this season but believe me his overall form has been distinctly average !

As gengers has already stated like it or not he is still the top scorer and you cant argue with that it may just show how bad the rest are but hope he really hits form soon so the knockers get of his back.

We should win against Yeovil. You know what that means. They beat Forest last week. This kind of game has banana skin written all over it.

Top scorer means nothing at Leeds thesedays in proportion to the likes of Beckford, Becchio & Gradel from recent times..

Ross was yet another of a long list of poor/average signings from the Grayson era.
He came to Leeds with a reputation of scoring from set-pieces, I expected more tbh but he hasn't set ER alight in his three years at the club. We should of taken the money Boro were offering which would have given us the opportunity to build a better team, too late now Ross is richer whilst our fans have to suffer more mediocrity :(

True he isn't (and as a team, we aren't) as prolific as we were with those players, but top scorer is top scorer. We have an average team with a few bright sparks who may become excellent footballers.

Maybe we should have cashed in, but a lot of people would have been up in arms and we may or may not have reinvested the cash...

Right now we don't have a strike pair in better form than Ross and Matt Smith, so they should be starting for now. Like I said, no one is immune from being dropped in my book. The best managers have dropped players to get the best out of them.

Hold on now guys, lets keep all this ennui in proportion...... Ross is on 6 goals, Smith on 5, and we are only 13 games into a 46 game season. Plenty of time for them to pick up more goals on the way, and if they improve their form with the impetus of knowing that the likes of Blackstock is waiting in the wings, they could catch up with the likes of Becchio, if not approaching Becks. Tomorrow, with Blackstock and Zaliukas freshening things up, we could quite possibly turn it on and start to actually get our act together (yeah, I know, I'm a dreamer, but as a confirmed optimist I will always believe it is possible to be great on any particular day).

They've both already eclipsed Beckford and Becchio this season with 2 and 0 respectively

Such a shame Beckford & Becchio didn't stay at ER, they were a very good partnership & played a major part in our promotion season, at least they achieved something in their Leeds careers
Let's face it I doubt any premiership team will ever sign McCormack & he'll never have the distinction of scoring the goal of the season at the highest level as Beckford did at Everton.

Beckford or McCormack ? there's only one choice...Jermaine is the 2nd highest scorer on % of games played to the legendary John Charles, he had pace that frightened defenders, a natural goalscorer who won games for Leeds on his own.
McCormack is like a pussycat in comparison, he is chicken-feed for the majority of championship defenders

I have a lot of time for Matt Smith as he is still young, has shown promise already & is likely to show considerable improvement in seasons to come

McCormack doesn't deserve a place in the starting 11 imo. It seems as if there is an attitude of "we paid so much to keep him, so we better play him"!!! Unfortunately, we couldn't return him after a cooling off period and he is now approaching his use by/sell by date for me.

Useless Ross McCormack scores a brace.
Useless Rodolph Austin provides two assists.
Useless Paddy Kenny keeps a clean sheet.

Warnock left wearing a protective boot. Drury still not fit. Pugh doesn't fill me with confidence for Charlton game.

Quick summary

Yeovil murdered us 0-0 in the first half.

McCormack showed he has the touch of a brick wall as everything bounced randomly off his knees, shins, anywhere but his boots.

Smith managed to completely miss the ball when presented with an open goal 5 yards out.

Murphy looked very tidy.

Second half we settled into our 4 centre back formation, Austin's runs showed more purpose and Ross scored 2 from Austin through balls,

Despite having 4 centre backs (5 if you include Peltier), Lees was the only one who looked as if he had played there before.

3 points but a grim performance

England test cricket team syndrome strikes again...Batsman scores a century in final test after a string of bad scores and secures his place for the foreseeable future...ah well will just have to be patient.
