I like the Glenn Hoddle vid with the walk out of the room when, the best player at the world cup is named, thing.. he didn't move when Messi was mentioned but walked out when Lamine Yamal's name came up....he probably wasn't wrong

Well he's found the perfect partner in crime - and I mean that quite literally - in Trump. Trump has enriched himself, his family, his billionaire buddies and other white supremacist friends to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars since he got back in the White House.

The World Cup is the perfect opportunity to create another cash cow for these crooks.

Yet a third of Americans still support him and his cult, in spite of continual, factual failures since January of last year - a society in decline, Im afraid.

Sad that the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet has come to this.

Shocking behaviour.
This is UEFA’s take, https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/747531 ... -ios-share
“This crosses a line that football’s governing institutions should never cross,” UEFA said in a statement released shortly before FIFA confirmed the plan.

“UEFA takes it extremely seriously. So should every national football association. So should every stakeholder: leagues, clubs, players, supporters, governments and everyone who cares about the future of the game.

“The soul and governance of football are not assets to trade — especially with zero transparency as to who gains financially. None of us are the owners of football. It is not FIFA’s to sell.”

I'd be ok for UEFA and other governing bodies to pull out of the FIFA and either not have a world cup or form a new body to challenge

The possibility / threat of "bigger" countries withdrawing FIFA membership is unlikely to appeal to investors.....

If this FIFA proposal goes t*ts up Infantino/Plastic Trump will be a dead man walking. Hopefully

Infantino already has the votes in the bag for his re-election.
He learnt a lot from Blatter in terms of channeling "investment" into country football associations.
A vote from the association in Vanuatu is a vote.

Yep, he's going nowhere unless corruption can be proved. It's up to the other governing bodies to fight back. I'd even be ok with just UEFA leaving FIFA and the world cup, the Euro's are of equal quality anyway.

They are spot on.

I hope European teams basically say they will withdraw from the World Cup if this goes ahead

That will kill it stone dead

There are 211 football associations in FIFA.

Many are small and financially challenged. Governance is questionable in many (including some associations in UEFA)

FIFA have offered $40m to each association who votes the right way, including an up front $20m if they accept by the Sept 19 deadline.

For many associations, it’s a no brainer

"We have learned of Fifa's deadline to associations to support their proposals or have the one-off payout offer withdrawn," said Uefa. "This says everything you need to know about this plan."

Why does this sound like the USA versus Iran game, sorry, war?

The associations that matter most don't need the money.
