True, but individual countries even in UEFA are totally strapped for cash

Read that CONMEBOL have also flagged it up along with UEFA so we could invite the South American countries to join the new competition.
That’s pretty much the best of the rest of the world.

Pullhard wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 6:42 am There are 211 football associations in FIFA.

Many are small and financially challenged. Governance is questionable in many (including some associations in UEFA)

FIFA have offered $40m to each association who votes the right way, including an up front $20m if they accept by the Sept 19 deadline.

For many associations, it’s a no brainer
For many Associations it will be a case of 50 Ways To line Your Pockets!! FIFA will make this fly by throwing money about and will not care a jot where it ends up - it'll be a chance of a lifetime for many. Many of the bigger Associations will not want their cards marked for future reference and if they have ideas of hosting the World Cup in the future so they will bend over.

As a point of reference the World Cup has become increasingly murkier since the 80s. The 2026 event is the point where the corruption has been laid bare for me.

The World Cup will never be the same ever again for me

Uefa's 55 member associations have voted to boycott World Cups if Fifa proceeds with its plan to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting called to discuss the proposals announced by Fifa - world football's governing body - on Tuesday.

Uefa, which governs European football, had made its opposition clear by releasing two damning statements about the plans - and that strength of feeling has now been reaffirmed.

The boycott would cover all Fifa competitions, including the men's and women's World Cups and Club World Cup, and be triggered if Fifa president Gianni Infantino's proposals are voted through by member associations.

The first time this stance will be tested is October, when the Women's World Cup play-offs are due to be held.

In a statement released after the meeting, Uefa said it and its 55 member associations "stand as one".

"We unanimously and unequivocally reject Fifa's proposal to transfer ownership interests in the World Cup and other Fifa competitions to private investors," it said.

"The World Cup cannot be treated as an investment product. It is one of football's greatest sporting legacies. It has been built over generations by players, national teams and supporters across every continent. No part of it should ever be surrendered to private investors. The World Cup is not for sale."

Fifa wants to create a commercial subsidiary to run its main events, including the World Cup, and external investors will be able to buy stakes in it.

Infantino wrote to all 211 Fifa member associations saying they would receive $40m (£30m) if they backed his controversial plan to sell off stakes in its major competitions.

The Swiss set a deadline of 19 September for football federations to accept his plans if they wanted to access an initial $20m (£15m).

In response on Wednesday, Uefa accused Fifa of using football "to enrich themselves and their friends".

Mens football won't suffer much, womens football might. Infantino's position will be very weak if he backs down. The Euros is the highest quality football right throught the tournament. No easy games, tbh I though there were some third rate teams at the the world cup bringing the quality down...

This feels like an American backed power play to have them take over the sport they're Johnny come Latelys in... Complete disrespect of the sport itself. Hopefully UEFA don't back down..

I have heard some countries are prepared to pull out of FIFA completely

Brilliant response.

The World Cup isn't the global tournament it needs to be without UEFA nations.

Infantino probably needs to call their bluff, call for that vote, win it and then see if UAFA have the balls to go along with it or he's in an untennable position.

The only apparent waverers from Europe were the Czech republic who's chairman said he's in full support of Infantino's plan

He's got other problems now

Not quite as strong as UEFA but Concacaf have also rejected it.

Infantino has been very openly corrupt I don't think any of this is news :)

I mean "20 million to your federation up front if you vote for me and another 20M if it passes" is pure corruption...

Can’t even do a bit of asset stripping in comfort anymore.

Earlier this morning the AFC (Asia) joined UEFA and Concacaf in opposing Infantino's plans, since then his senior advisor has resigned and the chief operating officer released a statement against the proposal, it's all falling flat before it even got off the ground, great to see all these confederations standing together, Conmebol (South America) OFC (Oceania) and CAF (Africa) have all said they are meeting sometime in August to discuss with their members

He has to go.
He clearly did all this with his best bud the Tangerine Turd during the wc - hence Trump's statement that "they were going to bring the wc back, this time just the US - we wouldnt include Canada and Mexico". So I reckon he and his slimebag son-in-law proposed this whole thing to Gianni and gave him his marching orders

Through this whole summer he has been nothing but Trump's lacky.
He has no respect for his own organization nor for football itself.

A full investigation is being called for, but likely wouldn't be handled by an external auditor type body, so it will be the foxes inspecting the hen house.

I'm glad this proposal is dead! Not because of the private investment element. That might be fine, but we weren't given enough information to really evaluate that. But the whole thing felt shady. Certain investors clearly got a heads up. And MANY others didn't. No time was given the Federations to study the proposal. Not cool!!!

I don't see how Infantino survives this! Between this and his involvement with the USA Balogun debacle, he needs to get shitcanned!!
