Newcastle v Leeds - Team, Reports, Ratings

Post by 1964white »

I reckon McDermott will select a fairly strong team, probably rest two or three !

Absolutely sick as a parrot with regard to missing this game :(

Come on Leeds

I can see the back 5 being the same that started on Saturday, unless Tom Lee's is now fit.

Midfield I would expect Green to be recalled to make us more solid defensively and up front probably Hunt and Smith to start.

That would be my call, too

Result-wise, we'll either get mullered or we'll nick it

I reckon Smith to start for sure after his goal at the weekend.

I'd like Byram and White to play wide again as I think they give us a bit more going forward, though we might need the extra defensive cover of Warnock...

Really looking forward to it regardless!

Very Warnockian of you playing Green and Varney wide! The latter definitely runs the channels well. Would you have any of the central men deeper? I'd love to see Mowatt in the team (as I said on the other thread), though Premiership opposition, there's less pressure in the cup...

Austin playing a deep role with Green chipping in doing the donkey work too

As for Mowatt he will have more time on the ball than the hurly burly closing down mentality of championship opposition !

Hope Byram doesn't play tbh. Dont wanna see him rushed back and injured again.

I can see where you are coming from but games is what Sam needs now and given we cant afford him to take too many minutes in league games to get to full match fitness, this is the ideal time for him to play for me. Another 60-75 mins in a competitive game (rather than a development team match ) should do him the power of good.

I understand your point (how very civil this all is), but would rather him play those 60-75 mins in a league game which is arguably more important at the moment.

Agree  going on Saturday's performance he is nowhere near match-fit, two games in four days could be step beyond. We missed Peltier but I would rest him too if Lees is fit

Of those listed on our link - CricFree or NjtvX8 are usually the best!

What baffles me is , Mowatt was superb against Donny but not played since, why play him against prem opposition where he may get overrun , yet not play him in the championship against more equal players so he can develope

Mowatt will get more time on the ball v a prem team than in the hustle bustle of the championship, probably in BM's thoughts.

I'm even more sick i couldn't make the game as Mowatt's debut was one of the best I've seen in 50 years of watching LUFC.
Last time I was at St James Park I witnessed young Delph running rings round the Geordie's midfield that included Smith, Butt & Barton :-D

Mowatt did ok. Better than most of Colin's midfield players have this season. Not saying much, but he didn't let us or himself down.
Worked well with Rodi - and Tonge - who looks like he needs a holiday already?

Decent performance tonight I thought?
Ross MOTM re players, for his 1st ½ performance...but even tho he dropped away in 2nd ½.

Kenny - Dubious for both goals, tho neither were really his fault, he was immobile for both. Positioning and distribution abysmal.
Byram - lacked the pace to get back when caught on the break. Nowhere NEAR the Samby we know and love...
Wootton - decent game - needs to get closer to attackers and scare them.
Pearce - at fault for toon 1st goal - never really noticed him apart from that.
Warnock - just get the fook out of our club. Backing off, missing markers - what exactly DOES he do?? :duno:
Austin - some solid tackling and decent passing for once. Got left flat footed a few times tho. Expect more from our Captain
Mowatt - as I mentioned above. Did good - yellow card was not merited. Still one to watch. Best midfielder this eve. He WANTED the game!
Tonge -solid, but woeful passing. He seems to think his fellow players are whippets, with the way he knocks the ball to them. Decent defensive midfield game tho.
Ross - MOTM for his 1st ½ performance and that achingly off the angle lob on goal! Was everywhere but lost impetus in 2nd ½-
Poleon - did he play? :duno: Had the impact of a soggy rice pudding. Hope he is used as a 2nd ½ bench player in future. He is not a starter.
Smith - Again, he wasn't at the races! Even when Ross planted a pin point cross to his head, it hit him - rather than he saw it and went for it. Marked out of the game by toon defence - were they that good, or is he just SHYTE tho? :duno:

Diouf - should have been on earlier, as usual. Our attack actually looked interested again when he came on.
White - again...why wasn't he starting, instead of lump of wood Warnock? Weird he was subbed on for Tonge and not the tosser who started at LB.

Fans - real MOTM! :shirt: Add that to your MOTM poll please Leon!

Manager - MEH...keep repeating those GFH-C promises, Brian...
