Had the album nicked out of my Austin Allegro in a car park in Biggleswade shortly after purchase. Never bothered replacing it.

Goes to show the reputation of the Allegro, they nicked the album, not the car

Iron Maiden ‘Live After Death’

Maiden must have released some dozen live albums over the last 40yrs or so. But, LAD stands head and shoulders above all the others and must be one of the best live metal albums ever !

Only other thoughts were SoD ‘World Service’ and Alexander O’Neal ‘Alexander O’Neal (oddly I went through a bit of a AO’N phase, which doesn’t sit all with the likes of Maiden and SoD 🤔😄)

As a kid growing up all I could remember us having car wise were Ford Cortina's through from the Mk II to a Mk IV - my Dad just got a new one every 2 or 3yrs as a works car. The Mk III (guessing was about 74 or 75) was great and was in bright orange, with black vinyl roof and had that US look/feel about it.

However, in 1976 things all changed my parents got divorced and my Mum remarried, so we (me and my sister) stayed with her and 'new' step-dad. Tbf he was a nice enough bloke, but..........he had a sh*t taste in cars. From the relative high of an orange Mk III GXL Cortina it was downhill all the way.........Austin Allegro.........Fiat 127..........Austin Metro........and even worse they were in that naff beige brown colour - as in faaip's photo above (the Fiat was green) ......the shame if you were spotted by anyone you knew.

An Iron Maiden fan who likes Alexander O'Neill! Not too many knocking about, but I like eclectic tastes. Sure if I list bands I like, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, the Aphex Twin, Steely Dan, Boards of Canada, Joe Jackson, Roxy Music, 808 State...it's a mess!

But what is unusual is going through an AON phase in 1985, 2 or 3 years before his Criticize and Fake hits.

O'Neal's debut album did include a top 20 single 'If You Were Here Tonight' also around the time Alexander O'Neal & Cherelle had a hit with 'Saturday Night' a song not on that album, but obviously created an interest in his music.

I've got a soft spot for the Allegro, as it was my first car. As Faaip's video reviewer says, they weren't that bad to drive!

Marvin Gaye 'Romantically Yours'

Apologies both Jill & I love Marvin's crooner album, even the master Frank Sinatra himself adored this album.

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me
Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

:roflmao:

Now that's faint praise!

I worked in a petrol pumps in my early teens, late 80s, way down in SW Ireland. Not too many Austin Allegros knocking around, a few Metros. Their drivers were the ones who would come in and ask for £3 of regular!

Tbf, Mountain I think I did work backwards more from ‘Hearsay’ than jump right in in 1985.

I do recall though going to Wembley Arena a couple of times to see (with girlfriend at the time) him in concert, when living down in Boreham Wood. When he did ‘If You Were Here Tonight’ he’d have a massive king size bed on the stage and go into the front of the audience to pick a real looker (an obvious plant) of a girl and take her back up on the stage……..cheesy stuff, but it sort of worked in the mid/late 80’s :)

It all sounds very Barry White-esque! My age means I remember more about the Fun Lovin Criminals "Barry White Saved My Life" than Barry himself.
