Jesse Marsch

Post by Cjay »

Potentially a sad day coming but to give an insight into seemingly the favourite if Bielsa goes.

48 year old Ralf Rangnick protégé.

Holds the record for most wins as a coach for the New York Red Bulls.

Won MLS Coach of the Year and the MLS Supporters Shield in America.

Won the domestic double twice with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.

Was however sacked by Red Bull Leipzig in 6 months having won only 8 of 21 however in his defence RB Leipzig were in a bit of a transitional phase with Marsch tasked with Changing the playing style at Leipzig and having to cope with losing players like Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahim Konate and Marcel Sabitzer.

However it has to be said he didn't do a good job.

Whilst at RB Salzburg he briefly managed Erling Haaland who said
"Jesse and I had a great relationship. We still talk on the phone sometimes. He was an amazing manager for me, and we had some great memories together.

I am lucky to have gotten to know him as a coach, but also as a person. He was very good with me. As you saw, I was very happy on and off the pitch in Salzburg. Even though it was just six months, it was a good time. He is an amazing guy.”

Whilst at Salzburg the American played a role in the development of multiple players including

Erling Haaland
Karim Adeyemi
Dominik Szoboszlai
Enoch Mwepu
Hwang Hee Chan
Takumi Minamino
Patson Daka
Brenden Aaronson

The American is known for his high intensity attacking football and faith in youth

A tactical analysis

Very unconvinced by him tbh.

His tactics to me seem like they wouldn't do much defensively to help us and would leave us every bit as vulnerable as Bielsa does whilst doing nothing to try and compensate for the lack of individual quality we have.

Seems a far to open style and look at the trouble Rangnick has had trying to implement his style on a far more gifted group of players and he is Marsch mentor

Very very concerned if he is does replace Bielsa.

what is it with the continual linking of Leeds with Red Bull? I never got the taste myself.

Marsch OUT

Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.

Marcelo Bielsa. The light that will never go out.

Ernesto Valverde

Far more experienced

Far more proven at the top level

Bas already shown he can take what Bielsa has done and improve on it at Bilbao

Jesse Marsch to me seems like he a Rangnick clone and look at the trouble Rangnick is having implementing his style mid season on Manure who have a far better set of players.

We need a manager who will remove the issues with Bielsa's system not persevere with them.

Would be happy for Marsch from next season, I'm not sure now is the right time. I'd prefer Nuno till the end of the season.

Worked for Ted Lasso. Mind you, his team got relegated.
