Archie Gray

Post by Cjay »

Deserves his own thread now he is in the first team picture.

16 year old midfielder from the famous Gray family.

Jesse Marsch is a big fan and it wouldn't be at all surprising with 5 subs allowed next season to see Gray join that elite group of 16 year old Premier League players.

In fact Jesse Marsch said that Gray will play this season and he is considered a first team player.

A more creative spark than many of our cm options but with a tenacious edge.

So will Archie be our breakout star next season?

That is a massive show of faith in Archie from Marsch.

Really rare that for a manager to do that for someone of Archie's age.

Fair play to Marsch.

Started today ahead of Bate and Shackleton. Would make you think those two might both be going out on loan. I mean if Bate sticks around, it puts Gray about 5th in line.

Jesse has always been keen on bringing young players through to the first team. Tyler Adams is one of his early examples. He will trust the talent and has a way of building a young player's confidence.

I have not seen young Archie Gray play yet. But I've read the positive comments here on MOT and look forward to seeing him this season.

Think we might see Gyabi in the match day squad soon too

The 5-sub rule for next season is a big game-changer in giving young players opportunities. Add the spectre of injuries and suspensions, even increasing depth in our squad means we don't have to worry as much about muting the development of the youth on the periphery of the first team squad.

It is written, wherever it is they write these things, that Leeds can only be great if there's a Gray in the team ......well buckle up folks.

You mean like the team that got relegated in 1982? And who was manager last time we got relegated? (I'm joking)

exciting player, might struggle to get on the bench though this year given the improved strength in depth we have now - but he's got plenty of time ahead of him!

Started ahead of Forshaw, Bate and Shackleton actually.

He started ahead of those 3 against Stoke also by reports. Was Roca + Gray.

It will be interesting to see where Marsch fits him in vs Klich in the pre-season tour.

It's obviously going to be Adams + Roca, but not completely inconceivable to think we see him every few games with the 5 sub rule if he's the 4th in line CM that plays 2 x CM's.

Can't sign a pro deal until March 2023.....

Archie looked good last night and he loves to run at the back line, his passing is good and he’s brave so would give us something different, my worry would be he’s a little lightweight, gets pushed off the ball by them bigger boys so injuries could play apart if he’s not protected.

But I definitely wouldn’t complain if we saw him in a few games this season

From what I've seen looks a very good prospect.
Can see him getting a few minutes here and there off the bench this season.
As been said previously once he bulks up a bit can see him been a regular starter in a couple of years.

Absolutely! We've always been a club that brings through our own players and that must continue. Despite Orta wanting to fill the u23s with other clubs' players.

First team fringes maybe, he won't count against the 25 named first team squad members but even with the match day squad being 20 players (11 start, 9 bench) it's difficult to see how he gets onto what looks like a very strong bench next season.

Your'e right Rat, Archie is still a little lightweight, only natural at his tender age.
