Despite Bamford going off, we got our shape right and looked good going forward

Obvious - Really dropped the ball tactically in the last 20 minutes
We've been through it all together. And we've had our ups and downs

Disciplined competitive decent performance for 75mins.

No fresh legs was a mistake for me. Cost us the game.

Positive: We have a squad that CAN compete in the Premier League.

Negative: The Manager got the tactics and substitutions all wrong after the hour mark.

Positive: Manager talks about using the bench intelligently all week.
Negative: Manager chooses not to use the bench intelligently after talking about it all week.

2 points thrown away and a very disappointing afternoon...

P: We have shown we can compete against the sh*ttest teams in the league. Not changed my opinion in that we are no great shakes but should get enough points against the sh*t teams to survive.

N: Not making substitutions when on top. Fresh legs were key for Soton.

Did everything right for the first hour, impressive performance.

Should have brought fresh legs on to match Southampton, made the changes after the damage had been done. Manager error for me today, should have been sitting in the top three tonight.

Positive: Taken points off a side who will be competing with us.
Negative: No academy product in the squad for the first time in a very long time. Hope it isn't a regularity, but suspect it will be.

We don't need to be competing with Man City. As long as we take points off those around us, we should be ok.

Ditto Weasel above.
Marsch needs to own this one. It’ll do him the world of good if he does

The manager said in the pre-match presser that he was used to the heat from US and knew sort of how to handle it. If today was evidence of that I don’t know how serious I can take his words.

The fickle nature of football. After 60 minutes all the plaudits were for JM, team playing well and c'omfortably heading for 6 from 6. In his defence we could have made changes, still blew the game and he would have got slaughtered for making changes when we were in control.'

For me though the tide was turning well before Southampton got their first and I would have made a couple of changes around the 65 minute mark.

If THAT was on his mind it's even worse. You can't worry about the Monday Morning Quarterbacks. (Sorry for the American expression)

We get to the hour mark with a 0-2 lead. It's hot as f**k and I'm thinking ok this is where JM will start managing the heat and get some fresh legs on to see it out. Nothing happens. We get to the hydration break and I'm thinking SURELY the changes will come now. Nothing. Then they come off the break and score and I'm thinking WTF! But the time they got the 2nd goal you just knew it would be two points dropped. And PRAYING it wouldn't be worse.

This is absolutely inexplicable. Jesse better own this. He let his players down today. Not to mention the supporters.

In the larger picture it's still a point away. Many of us would have taken it pre-match. But these types of results can have an effect on a teams confidence. And THAT is why JM needs to take full responsibility.

What do you define as the academy, because if you've played for the 18's or 21's you've played for the academy in my opinion

I agree. I just think in life generally it does you good to admit something. To the media. I got it wrong. It’s less likely to happen again than if you bullshit it.
