Re: Wilfried Gnonto
Gnonto is more consistent & effective than Raphinha.
Re: Wilfried Gnonto
I mean he has had a great start but he isn't more effective than the player who saved us from relegation last season.
Who was top 10 in the main Premier league creative stats two seasons in a row.
Gnonto has a long way to go before he is at the level Raph was at.
Recency bias imo.
Raph will always have my respect for saving us last season

I loved Raphinha, but he often went missing.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:48 pm I mean he has had a great start but he isn't more effective than the player who saved us from relegation last season.

I can't see Gnonto lacking involvement in a game, been our most consistent performer since his introduction to our First XI, never stops running for the whole 90 minutes.
Re: Wilfried Gnonto
He was non existant vs Newcastle for one.
Very early to proclaim him better than a player who carried us for years when Willy has only played 5 games of minutes.
Also has an in form Rodrigo, an inform pre injury Summerville.
Lot more support than Raph had.
Been impressed with Gnonto but early early days.

The ever present voice of reason. I must admit I’m the carried away type as I love Gnonto but I’d agree it’s early days. And he’ll be tossed on the scrap heap soon enough figuratively speaking if he dares to have one poor game let alone two.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 9:31 pm He was non existant vs Newcastle for one.

Re: Wilfried Gnonto
We have to be very careful with Willy. He has had a great start but he is just a young kid and will undoubtedly have poor games from time to time. Its important we use him correctly, its not like we are struggling in that department at the moment and need to give him a break now and again. Though seeing how he gets a bit excitable quite a lot in games i think he may well have a rest now and again even if he doesn't want it.

Re: Wilfried Gnonto
Yup, that's going to be the tricky bit.
He left Inter to come to Zurich, and he couldn't wait to leave Zurich to come to Leeds. ( Understandable, I know )
But sadly there are 'bigger' teams than Leeds.
Enjoy him while you can.
I'm lucky, I can enjoy him playing for Leeds even though he left Zurich, as I love both Clubs and can understand why he went ( fame and fortune ), but I'm dreading to think where his next move will be.
If it's a Big 6 Club then he's dead to me.
My hope is he goes to Spain next, when he's 30 something.

Gnonto (19years, 95days) is the youngest overseas player to score a PL goal against Man Utd at Old Trafford.
Is Willy the most unexpected, exciting forward since Tony Yeboah?
Signed for a fee of £3.8m. How much is he worth now?

I hope we don’t find out for several seasons

Re: Wilfried Gnonto
I don't know what school of hard knocks he comes from but this kid as got the intelligence, drive and determination to reach a really good level. Mancini loved Balotelli and Willy is already better than him.

Re: Wilfried Gnonto
The goal he scored last night he just ad no right to score from there with a low shot. It had to be inch perfect. He just seems to be able to finish with shots that you don't expect

Re: Wilfried Gnonto
He does indeed. He hits surprise shots but because of the power he generates they are past the keeper almost before the keeper has realised he's shot. Take his goal last night and from where he is you expect him to be curling it into the right corner of the net (to the keeper's left). DeGea is expecting him to shoot to there and is well over to that side. The natural strike of the ball there is to be hitting it with the inside of his right foot to bend it to that side of the goal. To hit it to the corner he did is just not a natural body movement, you're almost ending up kicking your left leg with your right foot. You're having to bend your foot so you're sort of oversteppign the ball to be able to come back to it. To do that and get the power is just incredible. I think most players if they tried that would simply end up tripping themselves up and certainly not getting any sort of shot in.
I just look at it and think how did he manage to hit it in that direction and with that power. I can only presume his short stature helps him, a bit like Maradona.
Re: Wilfried Gnonto
The ceiling with this kid is super high. Already scored a worldy with that scissor kick a couple weeks back. It feels only a matter of time until we see him bang in a Yeboah-like volley from 30+ yards out.

I’d watch Gnonto whoever he played for.
A really intelligent player with a brilliant attitude.
Very lucky to call him our own.

Just wait till he's good enough for the first team!
