Re: Rate the Ref as we are stung by the Bees
As poorer a performance as I’ve witnessed in a long time from the Officials. Linesmen, Referee and especially VAR. Linesmen should be watching out for foul throws- missed the one that led to the goal.
Their penalty was a joke, if it takes VAR 3 minutes to decide then it’s hardly an obvious mistake by the ref and they should have gone with his original decision, and even then the referee should have held his nerve and not changed his mind.
As for the the Sinisterra penalty claim, he had his shirt pulled outside the box which was a foul (not given) but he was more obviously fowled when he got into the box, not given by the ref but had VAR given that the same scrutiny as they gave the Brentford penalty appeal I’m sure they would have seen the value of our appeal but no, they only took a cursory glance seemingly and nothing given.
Referee - shocking performance 1/10
VAR - even more shocking and a total waste of space minus10/10

Same score from me.
Re: Rate the Ref as we are stung by the Bees
0....The ref bottled their penalty decision, firstly he gave no penalty. Then when VAR called him over, he dwelled for ages before caving in to the pressure of the officials and the crowd. You could see in his heart he still thought it was no penalty.
Then for our penalty claim which looked far more clear cut, he would not even view it on VAR. No wonder Marsch was pissed off.
Have to say Brentford were better on the day, but that first decision changed the state of the game. Suddenly we were chasing the game and getting caught on the break. None of this excuses the shambolic central defending though.

Re: Rate the Ref as we are stung by the Bees
4/10
Decisions in most part were fine. He let most of the 50/50 stuff go and didn't miss much on all the smaller decisions
Decision to overturn penalty was horrendous. I blame VAR because once they called him to the screen, it pretty much tells him to award a penalty. He called it fair the first time. It was questionable and might have gone either way. But the fact he called no penalty means that VAR should not have questioned it. Referee didn't call a penalty. VAR said - we're not sure so come take a look. The rules say then that the on field decision can't be overruled.
VAR again should have called something on the Summerville foul. Definite foul outside the box and continued into the box. 100% a free kick. Since the play continued, it's then a penalty.
Soft red card for Marsch - yellow, yes! I can only think that Marsch used a few bad words towards the 4th official. If not, then that's a terrible red card.
My 4/10 might look generous. Like I said, the ref got most things right. The big decisions were mostly VAR's fault.

2/10 - just an appalling performance. Unfortunately, and worryingly, it is becoming a weekly event.

As far as I’m concerned the matter is simple. VAR exists to correct obvious errors by the referees, if it takes so long (literally 2 or 3 minutes) for VAR to scrutinise a decision, then the referees original decision should stand as it’s clear that it can’t have been an “obvious” error.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 6:14 pm 4/10

It was never any more than a 50/50 challenge, the ref called it no foul, fair enough, no need for VAR to get involved and especially no need for them to try and change the ref’s subjective decision for its own subjective decision. Once again we have been screwed by VAR (you just know that if VAR gets involved 9 times out of 10 it’ll go against us as it has done twice today in a single match) and once again these injustices will be just brushed under the carpet and forgotten about and nothing will change.
At least I think Jesse Marsch is starting to understand what he is up against as the Manager of Leeds United (I’m sure he won’t have come across this level of bias before) and he’s at least trying to call it out. Unfortunately he won’t succeed!

Again for me a pretty normal refereeing performance. So I'll give him 4.
VAR has become a sick joke. I would venture a guess that VAR could award a penalty almost every time the ball goes into the box. The pushing, arm holding, shirt pulling, blocking off and arms around shoulders are there for all to see. If VAR is supposed to tell the referee when he misses an obvious foul why aren't we seeing many penalties in each game? I think after a few weeks of 12-5, 9-7, 11-8 etc we might see some changes for the good in the game.
Why didn't VAR tell the referee that he and the linesman made an obvious error missing the foul throw that led to the penalty given to Brentford? How can they look for 2 or 3 minutes at that so-called penalty until they managed to see some contact somewhere and then barely take a glance when our player first had hist shirt pulled and then was pushed in the back in what should have been an obvious penalty?
I'm all for getting calls right but analyzing a tackle frame by frame until you see some kind of contact isn't how I think they are supposed to use VAR. I'd even be OK with it if they replayed it in slow motion 2 or 3 times and then had to make a decision. If its not obvious then play on.

Pathetic on the VAR. Didn’t back himself as he knew it wasn’t a pen. Koch foul was 50/50. What’s the point when the whole system is fucked

Re: Rate the Ref as we are stung by the Bees
Showed himself to be weak by not backing himself when reviewing the penalty. Should have stuck to his guns by going with his initial decision as it wasn't a clear and obvious error.
Personally don't like it when a ref is asked by VAR to go and review. Its basically putting pressure on them to change their decision and not many refs are strong enough to stick to their guns.
They may as well be saying to the refs have a look at that again and if you don't change your mind you'll be reffing league 1 next week.

Wasn't able to see the match so have only seen the MOTD highlights. From which it's obvious that all the major decisions went against us and the Summerville challenge is a stonewall pen that should have been given. When it wasn't then that's what VAR is supposedly for to overturn clear and obvious errors.
Poor, very poor all round.
3 points.
