Shakeup at The Square Ball
Anyone know what's going on there? First Phil jumps and now Chapman says he's leaving. Phil I understand but Moscow going smells like a row.
Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
Where has this information been disclosed, Onemore?
I prefer Dan & Michael sense of humour anyway.

Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
I'm a bit worried for The Square Ball with Phil Hay not focussing on Leeds any more. He was always their chief source of information. And though I tune in for the entertainment and the humour, it was the Phil Hay segments that really made the difference. They'll probably get good information from Nancy. But she doesn't have the same personality that Phil does. Seems to me that she'll be better in print than on podcasts. We'll see how she develops as she gets more involved.onemoreslogan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 1:24 pm Anyone know what's going on there? First Phil jumps and now Chapman says he's leaving. There were 4 journalists that had direct access to the LUFC board room - Phil Hay, Adam Pope, Graham Smyth, and Beren Cross. Off those I could only see Pope as being close to Hay. But he has a podcast with the BBC already. Maybe they'll get a hold of Beren Cross. Although he wouldn't be a shadow of Phil Hay. More likely they'll get Nancy Roston on the podcast.
As for Moscow leaving - that will be a big loss as he's by far the best writer and analyst. And he's often funny when he goes off on his rants. But it doesn't surprise. He wasn't on every episode. He probably got offered a better job. I will miss his writing.

Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
Michael is definitely the more natural comedian. Moscow was funnier when he went into one of his long rants. Dan is really the glue that holds it all together though. Hope they get a decent insider on board to replace Phil.

And this from Dan Moylan.

He most likely got sick of backslapping, handclapping bigoted dynasty across t'road.

Moscow is a great writer, and has his funny moments live, but can often wax to poetically when interacting with Dan and Michael. Rob typically makes for a better overall show as the third.

This is Moscow’s statement:
“This is Daniel Chapman aka Moxco/Moscowhite here (why did I pick such a stupid internet persona... anyway). Sorry about this unexpected message, but as you are signed up for updates from The Square Ball I thought I should send you this one.
I've decided it's time to move on, so I am leaving TSB.
I'm not giving up on writing about Super Leeds United, though. In fact I'm planning to do much more of it, hopefully doing it even better. If you'd like keep reading what I'm writing, please checkout my new website - Leedsista.com - and sign up there to Keep in Touch via email.
It's free, way better than trying to follow on social media, and you'll get new articles by me in full over email.“

Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
Then:
“I am sad to be moving on. I started reading The Square Ball when I was eleven years old! I was writing weekly columns for TSB's Teletext pages in 2000/01!
From begging my mum to buy me a copy because it had Eric Cantona on the front (different times), it has been a privilege to become so involved in working with our brilliant contributors on making the magazine over the last fifteen years.
If you have read, listened, contributed, subscribed to or simply noticed any of that, thank you.
There's no great drama to this: but for reasons of health and happiness I've really needed a change for a while now. I'm looking forward to a fresh start and some new horizons.”

Good set of lads but out of all of them Chapman was the least engaging on my part. It may be his delivery with the quirks and tangents. Raised in Pontefract i am much more at home with Normantons pessimism and Robs morose style. Dan gets a little too tiggerish at times but does a good job at hosting.
Wish him all the best tho.
Phil is the big loss.

Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
Conor and Joe left All Leeds TV.
Phil and Daniel left TSB.
what's new?
Gary and Alan leaving MOTD.
One can only hope, come back Des and Kenneth all is forgiven.

Sorry to start a thread and then ghost Leon et al. Life imposed.
I received the email from Moscow quoted by BlancdeBlanc above. Thanks for the sleuthing of those who pulled the posts from Normanton and Moylan. I guess it's an amicable parting? Still TSB will be very different next season.

Re: Shakeup at The Square Ball
He was less involved over the season, they do have a replacement already, they young fella ( I cant recall his name) but he has been on more and more.
Sometimes you just need to make changes in your work life to keep your sanity.
I will miss him as well as Phil.
TSB has been my go to podacast for a long time now.
