Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 9th April) - That's more like it Leeds United

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 9th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

That's more like it Leeds United

Daniel Farke and his Leeds United side showed their mettle, securing a vital 1-0 victory at high-flying Middlesbrough. This win not only halted a worrying run of form but also propelled the Whites back to the top of the Championship, overtaking Burnley on goal difference and extending their lead over Sheffield United to two points.

The game's solitary goal arrived early, a mere two minutes into the match. Dan James connected with Manor Solomon's inviting cross, forcing the ball over the line for his 12th goal of the season. This early breakthrough proved to be the shot in the arm that Farke's team desperately needed, swinging the promotion race momentum back in Leeds' favor.

The goal, however, was not without controversy. Leeds saw two subsequent goals disallowed for offside, decisions that replays suggested were incorrect. Adding to the irony, James's decisive opening goal itself appeared to be offside, a call that the linesman seemingly missed. Despite these contentious decisions, the goal stood, ultimately proving sufficient to secure the vital three points.

Middlesbrough, notorious for their fluctuating performances this season, pressed hard for an equalizer. However, their efforts proved fruitless, and the defeat resulted in them slipping to sixth place, a mere point clear of Coventry City. This loss could represent a significant setback for the Teesside club's aspirations for a top-six finish, especially after enjoying a positive run of form with five wins in their last seven games.

For Leeds, this victory served as a timely reminder of their potential. While the performance might not have been their most dazzling of the season, there were glimpses of a shift in momentum that they can hopefully carry forward into their upcoming match against Preston. As they approach the final stretch, Leeds needs to adopt a strategy of focusing on one game at a time – the finishing line is now within sight; let's relish every moment of the journey!

James injury 'doesn't look too good'

Leeds face a worrying setback by the news that Daniel James sustained a hamstring injury during Leeds 1-0 victory at the Riverside Stadium last night. The 27yo Welsh International was forced off the pitch during the second half, casting a shadow over an otherwise polished performance. This injury comes at a crucial point in the season, as Leeds look to maintain their promotion push.

James has been an instrumental figure for Leeds throughout this campaign. Having started every league game in 2025, his consistent presence on the pitch speaks volumes about his importance to the team. Some have suggested that this relentless schedule may have contributed to burnout, potentially playing a role in this unfortunate injury.

His stats alone tell the story of his impact: 12 goals and 9 assists demonstrate his crucial role in the final third. James' blistering pace, clever footwork, and keen eye for goal have made him a nightmare for defenders and a firm favourite for the club's Player of the Season award. His ability to consistently spark attacking moves and find the net has been the driving force behind Leeds' recent successes, directly contributing to four vital points in their last two matches alone.

Daniel Farke confirmed in his post-match press conference that James will miss Saturday’s fixture against Preston but won't know more until he is properly assessed by the Thorp Arch medical team, admitting 'it doesn't look good'. Losing a player of his calibre for any period would be a significant blow. But James' injury is not an isolated incident. Leeds are facing a growing injury crisis, with the treatment room becoming increasingly busy.

Joe Rothwell is already sidelined with a thigh injury that will keep him out for the next four games. Adding to the defensive woes, Pascal Struijk was spotted arriving at Thorp Arch yesterday on crutches, his foot encased in a protective boot, further depleting the squad's options at the back. Concerns also linger over Ethan Ampadu's knee, with worries about whether it can withstand the rigours of the remaining games.

With attacking options dwindling, Farke will need to reshuffle his pack. While Manor Solomon has been in a dip of form recently, and there appear to be some internal issues with Largie Ramazani, other players will need to step up. Isaac Schmidt, who replaced James when he went off, could be in line for more game time.

Morning all
A superb but hard fought and well deserved victory last night, shame about the pathetic lineman , the very same who cancelled out flagged against us at coventry and also to millwall, staggering incompetence or downright corruptness !!
Will the FL act ?
The ref let a lot of bookings go last night in a normal count it could have been 5 of theirs and 1 of ours, but it was the constant racking up of free kicks he gave them that annoyed me, free kicks when their players just simply fell over, Aaronson for instance did the same throughout the game but he played on.
Anyway, biased officials can take nothing away from a fine fine win, well diaiplined by United and showed what they can do , no doubt after the backlash after saturdays dismal, woeful display.
Back on top , clean sheet, hope those 2 robbed goals don't hinder our goals difference.
It's back in our hands again, lets not mess up anymore.

Morning all.

Pity if James has to be ommitted, that goal last night was one we have witnessed a few times this season with Solomon on one side and James coming in from the other....

While he will be missed perhaps we could see AAronson out wide as an option? Then of course there is Rama too.
But the big news will be if Bamford is able to put in significant minutes from now on.

Preston at home will be a scrap and if he has 60 minutes in him it will help.

Happy to have three points again, and be reminded that we arent the only team susceptible to nerves at this time of the season

I was really impressed by Bamford. He needs to be playing at-least 30 minutes, Piroe's lagging...

We looked like we meant business right from the off and our physicality in the tackle was much improved and good to see but we are racking up injuries which is a worry.

A great win only tempered by James having an injury that could keep him out for several matches. Anyway top of the league again - and don't forget an earlier post of mine when I said that I had a fiver on us not going up on the grounds that I have never won a bet😁

After things deservedly turned in our favour last night it's now 4 wins to go up. That's provided we maintain our GD advantage over Burnley.

Hopefully though Burnley beat Sheff Utd and then it's 3 wins and a draw.

A hard fought disciplined win but what a nerve jangler at the end.
I said earlier in the week that playing a better side would suit us more and so it proved.
Aaronson and Piroe we both poor though.
Schmidt looked good again in the minutes that he got, as did Bamford.

In a bizarre turn of events at Thorp Arch, Leeds United have reportedly begun using orgone boxes as part of their player wellness program. Inspired by the teachings of controversial psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich, the club's new-age performance team installed several of these energy-accumulating devices near the recovery suite, claiming they harness “cosmic vitality” to boost stamina and morale.

Players were instructed to sit in the boxes for 15 minutes post-training, allowing “orgone energy” to permeate their chakras. However, a malfunction in the system led to an unintended consequence: both Dan James and Joe Rothwell emerged from their sessions visibly sluggish, dazed, and complaining of "soul-level fatigue."

Analysts believe the box, meant to accumulate universal life force, accidentally sucked the energy out of them due to reversed polarity.

Unaware of the malfunction, Patrick Bamford entered the box shortly after, triggering what witnesses called a “light humming vortex of performance enhancement.” According to sources, the orgone box, functioning correctly for the first time, channeled the stolen life-force from James and Rothwell directly into Bamford, who immediately jogged out of the box, chest out and eyes glowing with unearned confidence.

Bamford later told LUTV he felt “20% more majestic” and “spiritually taller.” While medical staff remain baffled, some at the club have begun reverently referring to the box as “The Reich Reactor.” Despite concerns, Leeds plan to continue using the device, albeit with a “two-players-in, one-player-out” policy to avoid future energetic overdrafts.

Good result last night but our tactics in the final 10 minutes felt a bit suicidal- why in those situations does playing football go out of the window? Bamford proved crucial to running the clock down.

The pressure only ratchets up from here, we could have done without a 1230 kick off but at least we don’t have a 300 mile trip the day before. It will come down to the Easter weekender and I just hope we put ourselves in a position to take advantage of whatever happens in the game between Burnley and sheff united.
