£300 extra tax on motorist especially those driving EV's

This will include some of the UK's biggest-selling EVs such as the Tesla Model Y and 3, the Audi Q4 and Q6 e-tron, Ford Explorer and BMW i4.

I do get absolutely sick and tired of this stupid comment!

No other party would have introduced the NHS or raised the living standards of millions of people by the introduction of unions.

People need to look up the history of how people lived before the Labour party came into existence, as the the Tories and their mates made sure the working majority were kept in their place with povert wages.

Yes I know it was some time ago, but generally speaking, by today's standards, to think your average Labour politician is the same as your average Tory or Reform one is absolute madness, and to ignore reality.
Of course a lot of this stuff is driven by the lies told by the right wing establishment and their mates in the press and on social media.
They have large masses of the population conditioned to believe the lies they constantly feed us.

Financial Reasons
Plummeting revenues: Electric cars do not use petrol or diesel, meaning the Treasury faces a massive financial shortfall as fuel duty income drops.
Ending exemptions: Free road tax for electric vehicles ended in April 2025, bringing EVs into the standard Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) system.
New mileage charges: A planned 3p-per-mile road charge for pure electric vehicles (and 1.5p for hybrids) is set for 2028 to ensure all motorists continue contributing to public funds based on usage.

Fairness and Policy Goals Equal road use: The government argues that all drivers should help fund public roads and infrastructure equally, regardless of what powers their vehicle.
Balancing the transition: Officials are pairing these taxes with tiered adjustments—such as raising the luxury car tax threshold to £50,000 specifically for EVs—to try and keep ownership practical while plugging the national budget gap.

Both petrol drivers and EV drivers are taxed on how far they drive — just through different mechanisms. It is easy to think EVs are being singled out, but the fairer comparison is per-mile against per-mile:

Petrol & diesel — fuel duty. You pay 52.95p in duty on every litre at the pump. For a 40 MPG petrol car that works out at roughly 6p per mile, paid quietly every time you fill up.
Electric & plug-in hybrid — eVED. From April 2028, EVs pay 3p per mile and plug-in hybrids 1.5p per mile, declared via an odometer reading rather than at a pump.
Both car types also pay standard Vehicle Excise Duty on top. The headline that grabs attention is that EVs are "now taxed per mile" — but petrol and diesel cars always have been.

He will be better than Starmer but he will not be able to fix all of the problems left behind by the last government! The country was/is in such a state as one term is not going to be enough to right the wrongs of the past. The system is set up to benefit those 'already' benefitting from the deals struck over the past 20/30 years.

Where is British industry now? Who owns the names you are all familiar with (Aldi/Virgin/BT/British Gas etc)? Everything is now foreign owned! How do you generate funds for the government to fix things when everyone is already being taxed to the hilt?

People are going to feel the pain for some time to come. Utilities/rail etc need to be renationalised. Gas/electric/petrol-diesel/food needs to be made affordable and/or wages need to be brought inline with costs/inflation etc.

Personally I don't think this is ever going to happen and people are going to keep feeling the pinch but it has to come to a tipping point soon! Tax the rich. That's it: tax the rich! Ain't gonna happen is it? Even a Trillion dollars is not enough: the super rich want all of it. If wealth for the rich grows, it just figures that the poor get poorer. What happens when the rich have all the money???

Jeepers: I didn't know I had that rant in me! Done...

On the positive side, we don't live in the failing experiment called USA.

Where you need to take out a mortgage to call an ambulance.

Bad news - we could start to move in that direction if the right get their way.

On side note. Democracy struggles due to high levels of ignorance and apathy.

The apathy indicated in the vote above.

People, for example ,saying they don't understand politics or 'They are all the same'.

Women not bothering to vote when women before them risked their lives to get the female vote.

Sadly, so many nowadays not knowing, or caring about history, and the sacrifices and battles that got us to where we are.

Dumbing down is another weapon of the super rich.

Look at the USA. If they can't understand the way they are being deliberately screwed , they will never strive for change.

A large number of americans still believe the USA is the best country in the world (They are indoctrinated into this belief from birth), despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Don’t disagree.

I’m not particularly into politics, I just crack in with my life. I retired at 45, so a lot of stuff doesn’t affect me, but it’s the kids I feel sorry for, god knows where we will be in 30 years or so.

Samantha Niblett from the Labour cabinet suggests having more SEX will solve all our problems

"Right then, comrades... I've cracked it. Centuries of philosophers, economists and doctors tying themselves in knots, and the answer was staring us in the face all along. Forget tax cuts, forget economic growth, forget fixing the trains... the answer is sex. If you're miserable... have sex. If you're broke... have sex. If the bins haven't been collected for a fortnight... have sex. If your local council's gone bust... well, obviously you haven't been having enough sex.

People keep banging on about Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. They had Soma. Tiny little happy pills. Honestly, how twentieth century. Pills cost money. We've modernised. Why hand out tablets when you can prescribe a good old-fashioned government-approved cuddle and call it preventative healthcare?*

You've lost your job? Don't dwell on it, citizen. That's terribly negative. Here's a leaflet entitled 'Passion is Productivity.' Rent gone up again? Think of it as an opportunity for communal living. NHS waiting list? Well, love heals all wounds... or at least it distracts you until your appointment finally comes round in 2038.

Some miserable soul always asks, 'But Minister... what about inflation?' Inflation? That's just prices expressing themselves. Don't be so judgemental. Another asks, 'What about free speech?' Free speech is exhausting. Far better to be blissfully content, smiling like you've just swallowed a year's supply of Soma and forgotten why you were angry in the first place.

That's the beauty of the whole system. Once everyone's permanently cheerful, nobody asks awkward questions. The economy can be flat as a pancake, the roads can resemble the surface of the moon, and the electricity can go off twice a week... but everyone's wandering about grinning, insisting this is what progress looks like.

Huxley warned us it might happen. We looked at his book and thought, 'Brilliant! Let's update it for the twenty first century.' No Soma tablets... just endless state-approved happiness, compulsory optimism and the comforting reassurance that whatever the problem is... apparently the cure is exactly the same as it was last time.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a Cabinet meeting to attend. We're discussing whether replacing the Budget with speed dating accounts can be considered as economic reform."

I voted no, because irrespective of the broad-brush idealism he comes in with, Andy is going to run into the realities of a lack of government finance for his initiatives and will become just as ineffective as Keir or the Tories before him.

Oh, and somebody should tell the twat that he's PM of the United Kingdom, not just England. Social care is not free at the point of use in Northern Ireland either, where like England, people with savings worth more than £23,250 are not entitled to help with care costs from their council - though he appears oblivious of the fact (apparently Scotland and Wales have their own arrangements regarding the eligibility threshold).
