Billy Bremner, one of Leeds United's all-time greats on the pitch, returned to manage the club in 1985. Following a promising spell at Doncaster Rovers, he was seen as a figure who could inspire Leeds back to the top. He came close to promotion in 1986–87, reaching the play-off final and FA Cup semi-final, but fell short and was sacked the following season. Bremner later returned to Doncaster, but his name remains synonymous with Leeds United.
