Gary McAllister returned to Leeds United as manager in 2008, having previously been a midfield maestro for the club in the early 1990s. Taking over from Dennis Wise, he led Leeds to the League One play-off final that season, though they lost to Doncaster Rovers. A poor run of results the following year saw him dismissed. He later took on coaching and assistant roles at clubs including Aston Villa and Rangers.
