George Graham became Leeds United manager in 1996 and brought a reputation for defensive organization. He rebuilt a struggling squad and made them one of the hardest teams to beat in the Premier League. In 1998, he led Leeds to a UEFA Cup spot, restoring some stability to Elland Road. Graham left later that year to manage Tottenham Hotspur, a move that angered many fans. His impact at Leeds was seen as laying the groundwork for David O'Leary's more expansive era.
