I have come to the conclusion that it dates back to the Revie era when Leeds United were the best team in England (and probably Europe) for the best part of 10 years. Better than the those in the cosy little closed shop of the establishment’s favoured clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal etc. Even though Leeds were obviously the best team by far over that period they never quite got the credit they truly deserved and those players never won as many trophies as they should have done (or would have done had they been representing one the FA’s favoured clubs).

The English Football Establishment and media could never quite bring themselves to admit how good that team was, describing them as dirty, or more professional than other teams, no they weren’t they were just better than rest and, I believe, they’ve never quite forgiven us for that.
