A valiant effort at Villa Park saw Leeds United forced to settle for a single point as Aston Villa snatched a late equaliser. It was a performance that showcased both brilliance and frustration for the Whites, who were on the cusp of a significant away victory thanks to a truly sensational strike. The atmosphere was electric, but it was Leeds who initially silenced the home crowd with a moment of magic.

The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute by Anton Stach, from around 30 yards out, he unleashed a thunderous free-kick. With many expecting a cross to the far post, Stach instead curled an absolute beauty into the top corner, leaving Emiliano Martinez stranded and leaving the Villa faithful stunned. This goal was richly deserved, as Leeds, despite their limited possession, had been a constant threat, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin proving a handful for the Villa defence. The striker was denied by a superb Martinez save earlier in the half after a well-weighted ball from Jayden Bogle, and also saw a promising touch allow Ezri Konsa to recover and make a last-ditch tackle.

However, the lead, so hard-won, was ultimately not enough. Aston Villa, who had dominated large spells of the game and were a deserved point on the day, found their equaliser in the 88th minute through substitute Tammy Abraham. The striker, on his first Premier League goal since returning to the club, flicked the ball home with his knee following a knockdown from a corner by Ezri Konsa.

Before that, Leeds keeper Karl Darlow had been in inspired form, pulling off a string of fantastic saves, including an excellent stop to deny Amadou Onana in first-half injury-time and a superb one-handed push onto the post from Emiliano Buendia. Despite creating a couple of second-half chances, including efforts from Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha that were saved by Martinez, the failure to add to Stach's opener proved costly. While the draw is a point closer to Premier League survival, and a testament to the team's strong form since December, the dressing room will undoubtedly be buzzing with the disappointment of letting a win slip through their grasp.
